Okay, so when we met Bae again for the second time in The Return (from season one),  he and Rumple were still living in that village, in that hut/cottage.  There was no swanky Dark One castle.  Also,  when Bae went down the bean hole in the same episode and wouldn’t have known about the castle at all.  He had no other direct connection back to the Enchanted Forest.  And grown-up Bae aka Neal, didn’t know about the book until Henry showed it to him.  I guess, he could have read further on beyond his story and more about his father and learn about the castle that way.

It just seemed odd that Neal would have that knowledge considering he didn’t grow up in the swanky Dark One castle.

Other than that,  the episode was awesome!! Epic!

Best guess: Baelfire’s story was in Henry’s book, which Neal read, leading me to believe that Rumple’s dark castle might have been mentioned in a later story about Rumple

I agree I don’t know how he knew about Rumbles castle either unless he came back to FL to check on him.

He’s been around for hundreds of years, plus the time he spent at Storybrook, I’m sure it must have come up at some point.

    Probably.

Not likely.  I think after somehow escaping Neverland and coming back to our world, that was it.  He had no other way to get back to EF or anyway to keep track of what was going on back there.

I don’t remember Neal sitting down with his father and really catching up on what’s been going on since he was gone. Plus, they were still estranged even after the confrontation with Cora.

LOL.  Oh, the convenient plot device that is the Blue Fairy.

Not much of a headache to me.

Most likely Henry told him, mentioned it. They did spend a bit of time together.

Neal read it in Henry’s book.

Possible as well, he heard it in his time in Neverland. We don’t know yet what happened to Neal, after the Lost Boys got him. Lost Boys might have searched in other worlds as well and had information, talked about it, or other travelers might have crossed Neal’s way. Even though Neal was trying hard to avoid his father, or being found by him, I think he couldn’t help but listen up anytime someone mentioned the Dark One.

    ¯\_(?????? ?)_/¯

I also think he read about it in the book, but obviously it doesn’t figure in his own story of Peasant Rumple becomes the Dark One. Nor would it be in “Rumplestilskin” and the Miller’s Daughter unless mentioned in passing.

I think it would feature in Belle’s story and he probably figured the beast was his father.

And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?” -- Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass
