The screener for 701 was put up on the ABC press site this morning and as per the usual, I sat down to watch it and share a few hints/spoilers and over all reactions to the premiere with you guys! I can’t say too much and I may not be able to answer many questions but I will give away a few things!

    Overall rating: 7/10

–It’s not a bad premiere. There are a lot of plot threads being spun that will take all season to unravel. It’s aiming for the same amount of charm that the Pilot had 6 years ago but doesn’t manage to grab hold of you the way that episode did. It’s been six years and it shows, I guess. The predictable nature of the curse, the obvious manner of its inevitable end, the villain having some sort of sob story…instead of being fresh, it’s very in vein with what we’ve seen before. That’s not wholly a bad thing, I suppose, and there were some very cool elements to the premiere. However it drags toward the end as more plot elements are uncovered.

–Andrew J. West is doing great work as Adult!Henry. If kid Henry never quite managed to tickle your fancy because of storyline or because he was so much younger than the rest of the cast then have no fear because West is the best part of this season opener. He’s got a charm that reminds me of Emma, Neal, Rumple and a bit of Bandit Snow.

–“Another Realm” is now “A New Realm” and I laughed really hard at that.

–Henry remembers absolutely nothing from his past– “Snow White isn’t my grandmother, my therapist wasn’t Jiminy Cricket, I never flew with Peter Pan, and I never crashed into Cinderella. None of that was real!”

–The Alice character is extremely interesting. I really want to know more about her. Whatever I was expecting from her in no way matched what I got.

–“Don’t you know by now that your grandfather knows everyone?”

–“My wings!” “I cut them off while you were sleeping. Surprise.”

–Worse. Use. Of. Bippity. Boppity. Boo. Ever.

–I really don’t understand the family dynamic of Lady Tremaine, Drizella, and Cinderella. It doesn’t seem as cut and dry and the fairy tale was. There’s a whole plot thread that gets introduced at the ball that came out of nowhere and threw me for a loop. You’ll know it when it happens.

–I was left wondering if one character’s curse broke in the premiere.

    –Henry’s cursed memories are….sad.

–Operation Glass Slipper. Because of course.

Skimmed what you wrote for vague details. Does it feel like Once Upon a Time or does it feel very different tonally? So jealous that you’ve seen it already!

I would say that tonally it feels like OUAT. Very much so. The themes of hope, family, belief, ect are all there–in spades. There’s a great big speech at the end of the episode that could have been ripped from anytime in S1.

I think it is very safe to say that everyone and I do mean everyone will find at least one thing that will make them want to watch 702

Thanks for the review/hints, RG! I am kinda looking forward to S7 but at the same time hoping it only goes 1 more season. I think A&E are okay at setting up a story but poor at seeing it through. A story contained in one season seems to be where they do best (e.g. season one, OUAT in WL).

My guess? Episode 701 ends with “My name’s Emma; I’m your mom.”

Not gonna ask any spoilers, but you know me @RG….does Andrew seem to share that mother/son chemistry with Lana as Jared did. Please tell me that RegalBeliever feels as great as it’s always been.

Is there any magic in Hyperion Heights? Or is a magic-less town like crused SB was before magic was brought back in S2

I was left wondering if one character’s curse broke in the premiere.

That character would be Rogers. As there’s a very quick sequence where he sees something and he starts to realize something is not right, something is missing. It’s supposed to be something that will reassure CS fans that CS is TL and that there’s nothing to be scared of in S7. Curse or no curse that Killian’s one true love is Emma.

I hope this means that CS will still play a big role in Hook’s S7 SL even if they’re separated but if that’s the case they gotta bring back JMO for an on screen reunion in the finale. Otherwise the pay off for all this angst is worth nothing.

Least that’s what Tumblr says that have seen it.
