Pros: He would certainly know everyone’s story and this might also explain why he was collecting names in “That Still Small Voice.” He’s almost always plays everyone and rarely gets played, so he would certainly be cunning enough to make sure that Henry received the book and start noticing that things were not right in Storybrooke. Plus, it explains why his story might not be in the book.
Cons: Since the producers have stated that he didn’t get his memory back until Emma said her name to him, I don’t think he was the one behind getting the book to Mary Margaret to make sure Henry would get it.A month ago I never would have said Rumpel, but the more I think about it, I believe he at least had a hand in it being written and perhaps planted it before the curse to be found and trigger events in the “cursed” future that he knew was coming. Rumpel is the ultimate planner.

So, do you guys think maybe MULTIPLE people wrote the book? Like maybe there are some connected characters we don’t even know about yet?

1) Rumple is not in the book
2) August fixed the book (adding a story)
3) Mr. Gold is never seen with or near nor does he make mention of it as Gold.
4) Until the first episode Regina knew nothing about the book and read the entire book cover to cover. this eliminates her as author. At the time she was the only one who remembers botth worlds and how can one knowing both worlds not know avout a book that can help destroy her and why would someone write a book that can destroy themselves.
5) Before Emma arrived Henry has had it for about one month and Mary Margaret gave it to him in her classroom.
6) Both Jefferson and Belle have not yet acknowledged to existance of the book, nor Rumple.
7) The Queen of Hearts and Baelfire had both departed FTL by the time many of the stories of season one had been told so how can they know about the things that happened after they left?September 9, 2012 at 1:09 am #153665hjbauParticipantWe don’t know for a fact that Rumpel is not in the book. All we know is that Henry couldn’t figure out who he was. I a not saying that isn’t a good assumption, but it is still not completely certain.
September 9, 2012 at 1:56 am #153684marilouParticipantWe could also assume that the author of the book is on our side. What I mean is that the book portrays Queen Regina as evil. If the book had been written by one of the queen’s supporter or someone who is more morally ambiguous, the book would have portrayed Regina as misunderstood victim.
wich leads me to think, since the book is so completely Black VS White and Good VS evil, it was also probably written by a bystander (or a sideliner if you prefer) someone who was close enough to the situation to have the knowledge and yet distant enough not to be very aware of the nuances and possible variations.
I feel that the book, really is only one side of the story… in fact, it’s worst then that. It is one person’s (most likely) point of view on a very specific situation, with very little knowledge (in the grand scheme of things) on what really happened (assuming my previous guess was right).
IN THE END, IS THE BOOK THAT IMPORTANT? I ask myself. It led Henry to believe (yay!) It ultimately brought Emma to Storybrook (double yay!) But will it have any serious relevance in the future? that’s the question I’m interested in.
September 9, 2012 at 3:11 am #153686lilredParticipantThat’s a really good point Marilou- whoever has written the book does seem to be limited in the story, maybe to highlight the viewers own understanding of the tales? I hadn’t really questioned the credibility of the book before – but now I really am! Thought it would be someone with first-hand knowledge of most of these stories (Rumple or Blue Fairy) but it could be an interesting twist to have it be a spectator of these events or maybe someone collecting these stories from second-hand sources…Is there a Rita Skeeter in Fairytale land? 😀

Thank you so much. I was so nervous about posting such a different opinion. I was afraid people would start throwing rocks at me.
September 9, 2012 at 4:24 am #153690hjbauParticipantI think you are right too. I mean things like Hansel and Gretel’s dad did not abandon them. That is incorrect. Ever since that, the content of the book is suspect. And we know that Ella said she lied to Thomas and told him that it was her fairy godmother that helped her go to the ball. So it is possible that is the known story and that that is what is in the book and Rumpel’s involvement is left out. Who knows exactly.
September 9, 2012 at 2:04 pm #153702PriceofMagicParticipantRumple must at least be mentioned in the book because of the scene where Snow and Charming visit him in his cell. It is possible that he’s not mentioned in great detail hence why Henry couldn’t figure out who Mr Gold was. Is Belle in the book? If she is then you would think that Rumple would feature heavily in her story.
All magic comes with a price!
Keeper of FelixSeptember 9, 2012 at 2:44 pm #153707hjbauParticipantThat is a great point PriceofMagic. In the pilot, when Emma and Henry are in her bug driving back to Storybrooke, he is looking at the book. And they show a shot of a lantern and then the scene segues into Snow and Charming visiting Rumpel in the dungeon cave. So that is at least a hint that he could be in the book.
