but Henry should have at least offered. Regina would’ve probably refused anyway but there is a difference between declining an invitation and being left out.
If he was a grown man, or at the very least an older teenager I might agree with this. But, he’s only 10 or 11 years old and I don’t think it’s fair to think that a 10 year old boy would think of the repercussions of not asking his mother to dinner or even think that by not asking her it would hurt her feelings. Henry is amazing with his intuitiveness and caring and foresight for a 10 year old… I wouldn’t want him to be unbelievable for his age, ya know?

The different fan reactions perfectly match the perceptions of the different characters and that sets up the potential for tragic conflict that none of the characters really intended.
If, like some fans, we look at it from the Charmings’ point of view, Regina has done a lot of horrible things yet Emma was at least civil to her in saying “Thank you” (a big change from threatening to kill her in the Season One finale). And that hug and thanks from Henry was huge – it was the first time in the entire series that he has shown genuine affection toward her. Despite that affection, his eagerness to leave her and go to dinner with the Charmings was perfectly understandable for an eleven year old kid. He hadn’t seen Emma and Snow since the first episode of the season and he had reason to fear that they were dead and David asleep forever. It was clearly a spontaneous reaction of a kid – certainly not a conscious effort to hurt Regina. I got a sense that Henry is now happy to spend time with Regina – he just wanted to do something different at the moment. After all, he can’t be expected to analyze the emotional needs of all the adults.
On the other hand, if we look at it from Regina’s point of view, it was like a dagger through her heart. She’s waited so long and done so much to earn Henry’s affection and as soon as she gets a few brief seconds of it, he pulls away to go with her enemies and she’s left alone. As several people have posted in this thread, Regina is going to need support to kick the magic habit and this is definitely not giving her support. We know Regina has always had a problem seeing things from other people’s point of view and that look on her face at the end told just how much pain she felt. Given Regina’s history of turning her pain into anger toward others, I think we are about to see a lot more conflict.

She is trying to change, we can tell, but I have to say that I didn’t feel sorry for her. However I do agree with what Daniel said in the initial reactions though. If you want to have Regina sway back to evil, leaving her like that may push her.

This. I could not have said it better myself, thanks! 🙂
Also someone mentioned that everyone is supposedly placing Regina on a pedestal just because she saved Snow and Emma, I don’t think it’s because of that, but because she showed how much she cares about Henry, and she started to show a change of heart in doing what she did to save them. She was conflicted when Rumple approached her with the plan, and I guess everyone just wanted to praise her actions, not necessarily put her on a pedestal 🙂
And this is also just my own bias opinion, but Emma was a little annoying in season 1 when she kept not wanting to believe and all, but it didn’t take much for Regina to change for Henry, but like I said, that’s just in my opinion 😆December 4, 2012 at 9:04 pm #163681hellraiser-89ParticipantFrom the Charmings POV, yes Regina has done terrible things. But in the next episode they’ll go and ask her for help about something lol 😛
December 4, 2012 at 9:14 pm #163683the fairestParticipant^Yeah, and she thanks them by using magic on Emma. Did you see that promo. 😯
December 4, 2012 at 9:31 pm #163687hellraiser-89ParticipantYes I did see that. I’m excited the Evil Queen is coming back!
I understand her though, I’d be pissed too.December 5, 2012 at 12:06 am #163691craxyfoxParticipantI love the Evil Queen and her evilness, it’s just so deliciously good sometimes 😛
but it did sound like they wanted to take Henry away from seeing her, so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!December 5, 2012 at 1:50 am #163699magickingdomParticipantI felt bad for Regina during last week’s episode, but I understood why the Charmings didn’t invite her. Too much has happened between them for them to just become besties. The fact that the they’re being polite to one another should be enough for Regina. She was almost torn apart by an angry mob a few weeks ago, and now, she’s getting praise from the people who she tried to kill. Regina should be grateful. And I seriously hope the reason why she goes off the rails doesn’t have anything to do with Henry not inviting her over for dinner. That would be silly.
