The interview is centered around Sean’s appearance in “Timeless”, but Sean did briefly talk about OUAT:

PS: I know a lot of Once Upon a Time fans in particular are anxious to see you in this episode. What has their fan support meant to you?
SM: It’s crazy! I don’t think there would be any Robin Hood coming back if it wasn’t for them. It’s their response to the character’s death that has prompted this return, because I certainly didn’t imagine — I thought it was done and we were finished. So, I was quite surprised to get the call and I was told that it was as a result of people being very, very kind and very supportive and making their feelings heard.

Interesting that his return is a result of fan feedback. So did Adam and Eddy not anticipate how much backlash they would get over killing Robin, or how much popularity his character and OutlawQueen had?

or how much popularity his character and OutlawQueen had?

OR how very tired people are of seeing Regina be put through the ringer while the writers still claim that hope is the central message of this show.

I don’t think there were many straight up Robin Hood fans–like, the character on his own; the vast majority were Evil Regals who don’t ship SQ.

Also, the fact that he’s coming back as a result of fan demand but is not being resurrected leads to believe that most of us were right as to the “why” of Robin dying in the first place; a mix of writer boredom with the character and finding the Zelena/Regina dynamic more appealing while recognizing that Robin is the awkward elephant in that relationship’s room.
