If Pan is definitely done after 3×11, I’m gonna be seriously annoyed. First Cora, now Pan, are they really going to be killing their best villains mid-season?
Most shows begin their seasons very slowly; ONCE didn’t this time.
I’ve actually been loving the pace they’ve set this season. I think the split season into 2 mini-seasons has meant they’ve kept the storytelling moving better, because they simply don’t have the option of wasting air time with filler and setup, it’s just all character development and stuff happening. They’ve said multiple times that the NL focus was for the first 11 eps, and you can’t really end a NL story arc with Pan still alive and a present threat, so while he wasn’t my first pick for a death, I’m not really surprised that they’re killing him off.
Peter Pan is totally Rumple’s father de-aged, I’m telling you. 🙂
Would be good if someone had made note of the replacement guy’s face to see if it’s a match for the guy who was cast as his father. If we’re not gonna see the replacement guy’s face, it’s possible they just needed someone whose stature could pass for Robbie when seen from the back.
In order for Rumple to have recognised him in the Pied Piper scene, it would mean he’d had to have de-aged before going to NL, but I’ve been assuming that Pan went to NL when he was still young, with the intention of staying young. So it doesn’t really compute for me. Also, they were originally gonna show Rumple’s father actually dying in S2, they even shot the scene, so this would be a massive change, and I’d think they’d had a prospective storyline in mind for Pan since the getgo, with the hope they’d be able to use the character.
If we get confirmation that the replacement guy was in fact the guy cast as Rumple’s father, then I’ll concede the point, but right now, the PapaPan theory just doesn’t click together properly for me.
[adrotate group="5"]November 7, 2013 at 6:41 am #221785HappyEndingsSpectatorEpisode 3.08 of Once Upon a Time will feature a flashback showing Robert Carlyle’s characters father, Colin.
He will also appear in Episode 3.11.He is described as dissatisfied, self-centered and ruthless.
So if Rumbles father is in a flashback in 3.08, I am also thinking this for 3.11 a flashback. Rumbles wife made that point that Rumbles dad was a coward so I am hoping this isn’t true that Rumble kills his Dad, and PP. 🙁
But maybe there is something that is floating in the air that hits Regina 1st she falls, then Henry and I guess last but not least is PP what ever is flying around needs a body.

Ending Pan’s threat didn’t necessarily need to equal him being killed, though. He could’ve lost his powers, he could’ve been banished to another realm, the list goes on. But yeah, they needed to close that to end Neverland’s arc.
I’m fearful, however, that after such a frenectic season 3.1 we’re in for a slow and boring season 3.2 as they’re left empty handed without a villain that can shake the characters and have to build another one from scratch, similar to what we had to endure in season 2 post-The Miller’s Daughter.

Yes, and I do believe that happened.
I’ve already have a headcanon for Peter Pan is Rumple’s dad that fits incredibly well with two of the major questions that Adam and Eddy have stated the season would answer, namely why Rumple is so terrified to become like his father, why Peter Pan is so afraid of growing up. In my mind, Peter was your typical irresponsible teenager, but was forced into responsibility when he found out he had impregnated a girl. The girl, Rumple’s mother, died, likely in childbirth, leaving him to take care of Rumple by himself. It was too much for him and one day he couldn’t take it anymore: he got himself to be reverted, physically and mentally, to his teenage self to forever live the daredevil’s life that was abruptly taken from him by Rumple’s conception. He forgets being Rumple’s father, but Rumple doesn’t and resents his dad’s decision to this day.
Also, they were originally gonna show Rumple’s father actually dying in S2, they even shot the scene, so this would be a massive change, and I’d think they’d had a prospective storyline in mind for Pan since the getgo, with the hope they’d be able to use the character.
Indeed they had a different goal in mind with Rumple’s father, but here’s the catch: not only was that scene apparently not featured in the deleted scenes of season 2’s DVD and Blu-ray (or so I heard, I didn’t buy it) when we were all expecting it to as Adam and Eddy promised in Manhattan’s podcast, but they also didn’t use the actor that filmed that scene as Rumple’s father in the new season, choosing to cast a new guy instead. To me that screams that the role of Rumple’s father became far more important than it was originally, so they needed a more noteworthy actor for the job.
As far as having a prospective storyline in mind for Pan from the get-go, I vividly recall a tweet from Jane Esperson around time 3×03 or 3×04 was being written that they just had an insanely incredible idea in the writer’s room and how they were euphoric that it fit so well in the timeline. My guess is that the idea that Pan is Rumple’s dad began in that moment.

They could still set up another villain before mid-season. I’m not convinced we’ll be off to Oz just yet, even though they’ve been dropping Oz anvils, but if so, there are evil witches there. There’s also Sneaky Fairy potential. But whether or not it’s Sneaky Fairy, I suspect there’ll be some larger, dark force who’s the next rung up from Rumple and Pan. Whether they’re brothers, or father/son, their family didn’t just curse itself, there was some force out there that set it all in motion.

They’ve certainly cast him old enough that that storyline could work, so it’s a credible theory! Peter Pan is traditionally so virginal, it might be a bit weird IMO to see him as a promiscuous teen instead, (this must be how people who didn’t like the TinkerMomma theory felt when some of us were first kicking the idea around), but it’s totally possible they could go in that direction.

I remember that timeline tweet, too, but figured it coulda been so many things it’d be impossible to guess, so I didn’t bother trying. LOL I guess I just figure they probably had a pretty set idea of what they wanted to do with Pan from the beginning. In the original story, he had a brother, and it was basically resentment over that brother’s existence that resulted in Pan ending up in NL. I know they twist the stories in all sorts of obscure ways, but it’d be a pretty major plot point for them to leave out, which is why I’ve always thought the Brothers theory was a pretty good bet. If their original plan for him included that significant part of Barrie’s story, would they really change it that much to make him Rumple’s father instead, leaving the whole sibling rivalry aspect from the original on the cutting room floor? I dunno, but at least we won’t have much longer to wait until we find out, because I imagine the Brothers theory will be confirmed or denied in 308.
November 7, 2013 at 8:46 am #221792rumbelledearieParticipantOkay, so I just had to catch up on all these knew pics and I’m freeeeaaaking out!
1) It’s definitely clear that he kills PP and most likely his father (aw), but why does he need the dagger to do it? How are PP and his father related to the DO curse, cause Rumple has NEVER used his dagger to kill anyone before, doesn’t he just rip out hearts or turn them into snails?
2) When it says that Belle starts crying, is she crying cause it means Rumple’s death too or is she crying because she’s watching Rumple kill two people? I need to know if Belle and Neal are in on this or just horrified! lol
3) When it says after Rumple stabs him “he disappears”, I’m assuming that refers to PP and not Rumple? Cause then Rumple needs to go on to kill his dad/middle-aged man. And I really don’t want Rumple to disappear and have Rumbelle separated yet again for the second half of the season.
But if PP hurts Regina and Neal and Belle aren’t trying to stop Rumple (Neal would DEFINITELY step in, he’s not afraid to take on his dad), then I’m thinking everyone knows this needs to happen or maybe this is what they planned in the library?
This is going to be crazy, I don’t want too many spoilers but I can’t stop looking!!
November 7, 2013 at 8:57 am #221795RumplesGirlKeymasterOne more spoiler Apparently Belle falls to the ground and starts crying very dramatically at some point during this stabbing switching out Pan sequence. She may be aware that Pan’s death means Rumple’s death and that’s the reason she’s so emotional.
*rocks back and forth* Everything will be fine…

I think he has to use the dagger because killing Peter is his undoing. I’m sticking with the theory that as one final mind game to Rumple, PP turns into their father so that Rumple will always have the image of him killing his papa in his mind even though it’s not his father.
2) When it says that Belle starts crying, is she crying cause it means Rumple’s death too or is she crying because she’s watching Rumple kill two people? I need to know if Belle and Neal are in on this or just horrified! lol
I’m going to say that after Rumple kills PP, this leads to his undoing and Rumple must be magically kissed back to life. Then we’ll have powerless Rumple and no more Dark One power because that magic burned off into the air, like Cora said it would in Miller’s Daughter
But if PP hurts Regina and Neal and Belle aren’t trying to stop Rumple (Neal would DEFINITELY step in, he’s not afraid to take on his dad), then I’m thinking everyone knows this needs to happen or maybe this is what they planned in the library?
I think PP tries to hurt Henry and Regina gets in the way and Rumple realizes that PP will never stop trying to hurt Henry so he must kill him to save his grandson, even though it means his undoing.

Those pictures are so dramatic and both Robert Carlyle and Robbie Kay have such intense expressions. This episode is going to be sitting-on-the-edge-of-your-seat riveting. Here are a few more pictures as well:
