Wait, isn’t it possible that August put the story about Bae in at the same time he added his own story? All we know is that the picture of Bae is there at the time of S,B,&T. We don’t know it was in the book before that point. Does Henry comment on Pinnochio’s story increasing? I kind of thought he was less worried about the book, and more on getting Emma to believe at that point in time, so he might not have noticed if there were stories he hadn’t seen yet.
From memory, he comments on Pinocchio’s story being added, because it hadn’t been there before. I love the idea that August added Bae’s story, (part of it at least) at the same time. It would make sense, if he was trying to drop little hints.
In any case–whether August read about Bae in the book begs one question–when did he do that? Because far as we know, he had not yet been to SB when he cornered Neal in the alley. So there has to be more story here, either August came to town on a previous trip before finding Emma, or someone else told him about Bae, or he knew him becasuse he met him. I really like the idea that he is on the run from the HO. It would lead to better in-story reasons for why August felt it so necessary to separate Neal and Emma.
August being an agent of THO is what makes the most sense to me. If THO has connections to PP, then they would have known about Nealfire. As a kid, August would have talked about the magical land he’d come from, and we know that THO recruits kids like that because it’s what happened with Owen. So THO gave August the mission to break up SwanFire, then August ran off to Phuket, and 10 years later, THO sent Tamara to help coax him back. And all of it was part of PP’s plan to get his claws into Henry.

He may have come to SB before Tallahassee and that’s how he knew Jefferson?
Given that they cut the scene with Jefferson and August, and have never dropped any hints on the show since that there was a connection between them, I’m assuming that those two knowing each other was a plot point they changed their minds about. If it was something they wanted known by viewers, because it was gonna be canon at some point, they’d have included that cut scene on the DVD.

remember Regina thought she saw August before
Personally, I just think they dropped that line in there as a hint to the viewers that August was gonna be a fairytale character. That was reinforced by Emma’s line, “He must be one of the untold millions you cursed.” I doubt they meant it to be interpreted as August having been to SB before. In fact, everything they have since shown us about August’s movements confirms that he can’t have been in SB before.
They showed us Nealfire giving August a huge wad of cash. They then showed Emma in jail, getting a package from August that was sent from Phuket. When we saw August in Phuket, he seemed pretty at home there. Lounging around in bed with a beautiful woman in a tropical paradise. And he was speaking the language, suggesting he’d been there for some time. He was loving Phuket for 10 years, and the only reason he left was because he was forced to by his changing leg. We then saw him speaking to Nealfire in NYC when he was on his way to SB, which then connects up to the first time we saw him roll into town and meet Emma and Henry in the street. Therefore, he can’t have been involved in the adoption, and can’t have been in SB at a previous time for Regina to have seen him.

Question: Wasn’t it the BF that gave the book to Snow, I can’t remember ❓
We do not know where Snow got the book from.
Rumpelstiltskin: Tsk tsk. The infant is our only hope. Get the child to safety. Get the child to safety and on its twenty-eighth birthday, the child will return. The child will find you and a final battle will begin.
Rumble lied didn’t he, I wonder what else he lied about.
What are you suggesting is a lie in that quote? Their child did find them. And as for the “final battle”, fans have debated what that could have been referring to and whether or not we’ve seen the start of it yet. It was a vague comment, but then, we’ve since learned that Rumple’s visions of the future can be vague, so he could have meant almost anything, including things we’ve already seen happen in SB, so it’s not a line I get too hung up on trying to decipher.
[adrotate group="5"]May 25, 2013 at 3:57 am #196041HappyEndingsSpectatorExcept Rumble did lie they never went back were they came from orginally, he set them all up he had no intention to go back to FL only if Bae was going to go which I thought was odd how can Rumble turn the clock back to Bae age of 14.
May 25, 2013 at 4:18 am #196043kfchimeraParticipantThere are always scenes we are not shown. Just because we do not see how August knew, doesn’t mean it had to have happened on some previous trip. How do we even know Henry kept the book at the castle from the moment he got the book? At some point Henry decides it is too dangerous to keep it in his own house–but we don’t know when that was. It could have been after Emma came to SB that Henry moved it out to the castle. Even if before Emma came to town, that still begs the question of how August would have known even if he had been in town before. So it still goes back to–he might have spied, like RumplesGirl says or magic was involved. We know August was outside Henry’s house “fixing” his Bike, and hanging around Henry enough that it spooked Regina into telling Emma to watch August.
So if we never see anything more, my guess is August spied and then dug up the book. It is also possible that August knew Henry was supposed to get the book as a trigger, and knew to look for it so he could add his story.
We don’t know anything yet that says what must have happened, only some guesses about what kinds of things might have happened. Again, the “who wrote the book” isn’t necessarily a plot hole, as it is something the writers left hidden for a future reveal. How August knew about the book, what he knew about it etc. are likely future stories too.
I agree with what Phee said–it is more likely August was happily in Phuket from the time Emma was in jail, then likely that August came back in between. It is possible of course, that August went to SB in the 2 years he mentions he spent looking for Emma in the scene where he corners Neal. Yet that obviously would not have helped August know where Henry (who was not born yet) would have kept the book.
I also agree–vague statements about what will happen aren’t quite lies.

Mr. Gold: Well, I don’t lie.
David: There’s a difference between literal truth, and honesty of the heart. Nothing taught me that more than this curse.
Gold loves his half-truths, so of course we are supposed to wonder what else he has misled people about. That’s the fun of a character like him–he can be written as having known but not cared, or cared but not known, and it will eventually make sense either way because sneaky Rumpel IS sneaky, so sneaky, he isn’t always sneaky!

He never said they’d go back, he didn’t even specify that they’d be physically moved to a whole separate world they would want to come back from…
Rumpelstiltskin: The Queen has created a powerful curse. And it’s coming. Soon, you’ll all be in a prison. Just like me, only worse. Your prison, all of our prisons, will be time. Time will stop, and we will be trapped. Someplace horrible, where everything we hold dear, everything we love, will be ripped from us while we suffer for all eternity. While the Queen celebrates, victorious at last. No more happy endings.
Snow White: What can we do?
Rumpelstiltskin: We can’t do anything.
Snow White: Who can?
Rumpelstiltskin: That little thing, growing inside your belly.
(Rumpelstiltskin gestures to Snow White’s pregnant belly. The prince slashes his hand away with a sword.)
Prince Charming: Next time, I cut it off.
Rumpelstiltskin: Tsk tsk. The infant is our only hope. Get the child to safety. Get the child to safety and on its twenty-eighth birthday, the child will return. The child will find you and a final battle will begin.
May 25, 2013 at 8:18 am #196048vroniParticipantI think it’s notable that Rumpel says “the Queen has created a powerful curse”…. also kind of a lie don’t you think? Rumpel created it, the Queen just executed and gathered the things she needed to set it in motion (hair of those with the darkest souls, heart of the thing she loved the most…). Or does that also qualify for a half-truth?
May 25, 2013 at 8:29 am #196051PheeParticipantWell, it seems Regina was able to edit it, so she could draw in people like Frankenstein and Jefferson from other worlds, and curse Jefferson to remember, and she wrote her failsafe diamond of doom into it too, as well as having Maleficent trapped down there to guard it. Rumple created the part of it that would get him to the right place and time to find Bae, but much of the details that would affect everyone to make them miserable seem to have been up to Regina to determine. So I’d call it a half truth instead of an outright lie. 😉
May 25, 2013 at 8:33 am #196052vroniParticipantThat’s something I can live with 😀 thanks Phee, didn’t look at it like that!
May 25, 2013 at 12:38 pm #196058RumplesGirlKeymasterActually we don’t know who created the Curse because, as we learn in the Return from the BF, the Curse was already “out there” somewhere. The BF tries to deny it but Rumple realizes a Curse will take him to another land to find Bae and that is how he learns about it. Regina executed the Curse, Rumple “found” it and enhanced it with the Emma-fail safe. But as to who created it….
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 25, 2013 at 2:53 pm #196071HappyEndingsSpectatorThe Blue Fairy tells him he’ll never make it to the other world. He knows there has to be another way and when he mentions a curse, her reaction tells him that’s the solution. She asks him if he’d be willing to sacrifice this world for the next? Rumple sneers, “What do you think?” The Blue Fairy says she’ll comfort herself with the fact that he doesn’t have the abilities to come up with that kind of curse. Rumple says for now but he has all the time in the world

I agree with this ^
What was Maleficent comment about the curse something to the effect that it was really bad.
May 25, 2013 at 2:56 pm #196074RumplesGirlKeymasterEvil Queen: I need that curse. I know you keep it hidden in the orb above your staff.
Maleficent: Hidden for the good of all, old friend. Whoever created that monstrosity, makes the two of us look positively…moral. Who did give it to you?
Evil Queen: Where I got it’s none of your concern. Hand it back.
I don’t think Regina knows much about the Curse. It was given to her by Rumple as a way to kill Snow and Charming by moving them to another land because they were protected in FTL. She never really stopped to think about the Curse or who made it. She is probably under the assumption that Rumple created it, but we know he didn’t…or at least he didn’t create it originally. He found it, tweeked it, and then gave it to Regina who tweeked it some more to include her fail safe and actually write out everyone’s lives. But neither of them created it.
