That is true arjay, but Charming’s mother had just tried to convince him to marry a girl from town so that the farm could be protected and he refused that, so it then seemed odd to me that he would just go with Rumpel especially after how upsetting the deal was. And here Rumpel was making the same deal with Charming’s mother again that he had made when he took the first son, that he would save the farm if Charming came just like the first deal was he would save the farm if James would come. Why would they make the same deal with Rumpel again and doesn’t that mean that Rumpel did not keep up his end of the bargain the first time at least not in any useful way so why make the same bad deal, the exact same bad deal, again.
I guess Charming was trying to do the right thing, to protect his mother and the kingdoms. It just seemed so much like the wrong thing.

It’s easier to say no to a merchant than a king when all Charming is is a shepherd, especially when Rumpel tells him to make sure he’s making the right choice.

I just think that after it not working out so well the first time with taking the first prince that died that Charming would have thought this is not such a good deal and i should say no. And Rumpel’s role in this deal was his information, in that, he knew where Charming was and George did not. So i think before Charming took the initial offer he would have been safe i think at least safe from George if not from Rumpel.

In my heart, David can do no wrong. So what if he played MM on in the beginning? So what if he cheated on his wife? So what if he didn’t believe MM? It’s all because of the curse. Deep inside under his cuteness, is Charming wanting to break free. I blame the curse for every mistake that David makes. He’s perfect and lovely. <3
Yeah well so what if he cheated on his his wife? His marriage to Kathryn was a sham to begin with. When Kathryn finally said to David in the hospital that he was not wrong to recognize that there really was nothing there she did not fault him because she felt the same way. When she was talking to Regina at the party for David’s return she was not sure of how to react to his return Regina said she needed to talk to David and Kath seemed unsure. It seems that both Kath and David kind of had a clue that something was not right with their relationship. David did say to MM that his relationship with Kath seemed real there really was nothing there while his feelings for MM was real. Kath even questioned Regina a few times why she was willing tom help her, which tells me she had reservations about her relationship to David. Kathryn even forgives him for his feelings towards MM and she does points out that he never looked at her the way he looks at MM after seeing those pictures of the two of them together.

May 20, 2012 at 11:53 am #147360killianhookfanParticipantDoes anyone else wonder if the Kathryn thing is still going to be an issue even though everyone remembers now? I know that everyone will realize that David and Kathryn’s marriage was a sham but at one point Kathryn thought she was pregnant which means that they were . . .
Now Snow could be the most understanding woman on the planet about the curse but the thought of her husband and another woman getting it on, even if there is a perfectly logical explanation, doesn’t seem like something you could just forget about. I wonder if Archie will still be doing couples counseling in season 2?
May 20, 2012 at 3:36 pm #147371JosephineParticipantBut MM/Snow wasn’t an angel, either. It was a long term thing, but she did have a one-off with Dr. Whale. I wonder if she’ll tell him.
Okay, I just read the Rumple/Gold compendium and something stood out…Charming and Rumple. One of the posts mentioned that Charming was the only one, besides Belle, to really talk to him. I never thought of that, but it’s true. All they’re interactions have an undercurrent of…I don’t know…that they could potentially be friends or at least tolerate each other if the situation called for it. I know he’s “invested in his future” but Rumple seems to somewhat like Charming, like a grudging type of respect. Hopefully, Charming will not be gunning first thing to recapture Rumple/Gold like he was in FTL.

June 22, 2014 at 9:30 am #274939PriceofMagicParticipantThought I’d kick off the Charming discussion with these questions.
1. Are Snow and Charming equal partners in the Snowing relationship, or is one of them the more dominant partner?
2. Does Charming have the strongest relationship with Henry AND Emma?
3. How has Charming grown as a character as the seasons have progressed?

Are Snow and Charming equal partners in the Snowing relationship, or is one of them the more dominant partner? 2. Does Charming have the strongest relationship with Henry AND Emma? 3. How has Charming grown as a character as the seasons have progressed?
1. They are partners but I think they play different roles. Charming is very much the “sword and shield” guy. I would say that in terms of the Snowing and Emma relationship, Charming takes a back seat, though I must commend the show that they’ve gotten better about Daddy Charming moments.
2. I think his relationship with Henry has suffered over the seasons, not because of anything narrative wise but because both characters have fallen by the wayside for more interesting characters and storylines (more on that in a moment). His relationship with Emma has gotten stronger and I appreciate that Charming doesn’t try to force a family bond on her, but rather lets Emma come to him. Emma is more like Charming than Snow so it’s natural that they bond.
3. I’m going to be honest about this one: I don’t think he has. In the Belle thread we talked about how Belle’s lack of screen time has hindered her development outside of Rumbelle. But the problem is that argument falls flat when we consider two main characters who get pretty hefty screen time but do not receive the type of storyline to match. The first is Charming and the second Henry, but I’ll leave Henry alone for the time. Charming is supposed to be THE lead male on the show. The guy is literally the first image we have on the show. In season one they did a great job of showing the differences between David Nolan and Prince Charming. But gradually, over the seasons, Charming has remained exactly as he was post-Curse: Consummate White Knight Charming. It’s not a bad quality but they have yet to give any real depth or nuance to him. I feel like I don’t know him as well as I know Snow or Rumple or even Hook, who came in much later than Charming. Charming is there to prop up Snow’s constant “hope” message and to fight with a sword. His first real big storyline independent of Snow was in S3A with the dreamshade, but this turned out to be a storyline that wasn’t even about Charming but another character; in otherwords, they turned Prince Charming into a plot device. In s3B he did get a bigger story with Rapunzel and it was nice to give another side to Charming, but sadly the episode was flat and borderline uninteresting. And once again, it revolved around Charming’s role as FATHER KNIGHT who must save the day, instead of trying to show Charming outside of those two roles. If they want him to be a knight, that’s understandable but they haven’t shown me how he got to that place. He was a farmer turned knight, but seriously…fine me a farmer who can wield a sword like that and has such a high moral code–a knightly code, one might say. Where did that come from? Ultimately I think Charming suffers from not being interesting enough to the writers. He’s the good guy and they clearly like writing for the anti-heroes more. So Charming gets reduced to his leading characteristic of white knight and isnt’ allowed to be anything more.
