To be honest, I’m not sure it’s really that important in the story to know who Charming’s father was. With Rumple, yes, it was completely understandable that he didn’t want to repeat his father’s mistakes with his son, and then Neal with Henry. I doubt very much Charming’s biological father was anyone important. But that’s not to say, he couldn’t factor in at a later date if Adam and Eddie really wanted to delve into that history. Besides, I think Charming already dealt with his parenting issues in The Tower. So, I’m not sure how important it is to see his father next season.
For me it comes down to two things: his sword fighting abilities and his chivalric code. Neither of those are things we are born with, they are learned. Who taught Charming these things?? My guess is that his father was a knight of the Round Table who left to marry Ruth out of true love. So now we’ve got David, who can fight, but has honor and understands the value of true love. All things learned from his father.

OUAT has only lightly, very lightly touched on the King Arthur Legend. So if Charming’s father is one of the Knights of the Roundtable, which Knight is he?

(A legendary cup which is mentioned by Lancelot at Snow and Charming’s 1st smaller wedding.

I view him as being a man who was caught in a very ugly crossfire, but rose to the challenge. So out of all the Charmings, I have most respect for David. Now his sporadic stupidity is one of his few downfalls, along with his everlasting “I will always find you”, and his occasional judgmental qualities.
But overall, Charming is the one Charming who I feel Rumple and Regina feel more comfortable being around, I guess because he’s never done anything to personally offend either of them. Though I do have one suggestion for David….lose the sword, dude. I believe guns would be more effective for him to use, well not on magical beings as they could just poof it away as Cora did, but for regular SB people. But overall…I think David’s a pretty cool Charming.
What I hope for S4 Charming is to just be a great dad to Neal, and for his bond with Emma to continue to grow. And plus…being cooped up with Snow White all the time, David needs some time to just hang out with the guys. Like go to the Rabbit Hole with Killian, Rumple, and Robin, and play pool, or play cards. I think it’d be nice to see the couples separate and hang out with their own gender for a boys or girls night out.
And as for Snowing whose apparently found their happily ever after…I think an issue would actually make them a more likeable couple. I mean Snowing is just too perfect, and many Oncers on tumblr, twitter, facebook find Snowing to actually be a little boring because we haven’t had anything to come against them in a while, even so much as an argument as to what to paint the bathroom wall would be good rather than just have them snuggling on the couch all day. They’ve become in a sense the Disney Cartoon Snow and Charming…and perhaps what they need is a new adventure.
And if I had to grade David as a character….I’d give him a B+! 🙂

I do agree that Snowing often comes across as too perfect. Would it kill them to fight just a little?

So would I. I liked his interactions with Rumple a lot. Rumple secretly wants to be the dashing hero. More David and Rumple please!

I really wanna see a normal married couple fight between them no need for a curse or a new villain to make relationships interesting even though they are fairy tail characters they live in real world they should eventually face with real world problems

I am all for the GoldCharm BroShip! Gold and Charming playing cards would be brilliant!

June 19, 2016 at 9:08 am #324864sciencevsmagicParticipantSince it’s been quiet recently, I thought I’d try and stimulate some discussion by resurrecting one of these character threads. Some questions to kick things off:
1) What do you think of Prince Charming’s character development over these last couple of seasons?
2) What, in your opinion, were some highlights for the character?
3) Do you think Charming has any interesting stories left in him?
4) Do you wish Charming had gotten more character development, or are you happy for him to play second fiddle to the strong female characters?
My answers:
1) His character, and Snow’s have been completely assasinated. Season 4 made them look hypocritical and immoral with the baby kidnapping plot. Season 5 made them look like incredibly stupid and incompetent parents. They left their newborn to traipse down to the Underworld!!! The writing’s been really bad for these two, and the more the show progresses, the worse it gets.
2) Being made a Knight of the Round Table. It didn’t last long, but it was just so perfect for Charming.
3) I’m of the opinion that Snow and Charming should take a back seat in S6 as they don’t contribute anything to the story any more. When they are given a plot, it feels silly and contrived. So, I want them off screen, as much to save them from further character assasination as anything else. Having said that, I can think of one more story for Charming which might be interesting. In 207 (‘Child of the Moon’) King George says to Charming, “You should have killed me when you had the chance!” As far as I recall, we never saw how Snowing captured George. So that might be a possibility.
4) Honestly, I don’t mind him playing second fiddle. Then again, perhaps Charming could have been made as interesting as the ladies, if written right. Part of his problem (for me) is that he’s just so unrelatable. He always meets any challenge with a Colgate smile and line from a motivational calendar. Hardly ever do we see any self doubt. You’d think that a shepard turned prince would have plenty of self doubt. It would have been fascinating to see Prince Charming struggle with feeling scared, or not being worthy of a princess.
