“Here Emma! We’ve named your baby brother after the man you’ve repeatedly had sexual relations with!”
If they were so bent on doing this, they should have asked Rumple first. Because they barely knew Neal and while, yes, he was a hero to the very last, Snow and Charming have very little connection to Neal.
Yes, I agree. Other than the one flashback in the lost year in EF after their return, I don’t think they talked to him much.
I’m thinking now the final decision on calling him Neal ultimately came from Snow because she was Team Neal in 3a. Charming might have the same reservations that a lot of us have, that they didn’t really know him and couldn’t do this but I think it was Snow’s decision. I can see her really wanting to push for naming him Neal.
So if I’m right and it came down to Snow’s final decision, it’s not that surprising.

I doubt if this was Snow’s idea after all Snow never knew what Neal did to Emma also Emma did tell MM that Henry’s father was a bad guy when she found the father for Hazel and Gretel. Snow was with Emma when she was locked up in FTL by Hook. David did the toast so it must have been him after all he didn’t like the name Leo and Emma is his little girl.
I really, really hate this name for the baby now Neal is not only Emma’s past lover and father of Neal but now a brother to Emma and Henry is the Uncle looks like they are trying to reincarnate Neal for the Neal fans to me in my opinion.

One thing hit me today as I was driving home from work… Imagine how awkward the dialogues regarding baby Snow are going to be from now on:
“I’m breastfeeding Neal.”
“Can you change Neal’s diaper, Emma?”
“Shhh, Neal is sleeping!”
🙄 🙄 🙄

That goes back to the point that Snow never really knew him but also, Snow’s belief in true love, that first love = true love. Remember how much Snow was pushing Emma to find Neal in Neverland after they found out he was alive. And Snow was still pushing Emma towards Neal once they got back to Storybrooke even though Emma didn’t want to revisit a romantic relationship.

With the way Snow has been acting in season 3, it wouldn’t surprise me either, although Snow did want to call the baby Leopold so if she really could make Charming go with her decision, even if he disagreed, then the baby would’ve probably been called Leopold.
Snowing might have called him Neal because they feel indebted to Neal. If it wasn’t for him, Snowing would’ve used Zelena as their midwife, unaware she was really the WW after their baby. Snowing would feel personally indebted to Neal because his sacrifice prevented something that would’ve directly affected them.
Snowing called the baby Neal with the best of intentions but kind of misaimed it.
All magic comes with a price!
Keeper of FelixMay 21, 2014 at 5:35 pm #270834HappyEndingsSpectatorNaming the baby after Emma’s X-Lover is terrible I don’t know where these writers think this isn’t clever or even funny!!! It was bad enough that Leo knew Regina was Cora daughter and now they continually dummy down and destroyed Snow/MM character and family so much it isn’t even funny or clever to even watch them he might as well put Snow/David out of their misery and end them after all they are down to 1/2 a heart a piece. Maybe that is the idea there was an old John Cash song putting a car together one piece at a time so I guess this is Adam’s idea destroy Snow’s family one piece at a time. 🙁
Snow White was suppose to be Adam’s favorite tale you could fool me if this is how Adam treats his favorites it pays to be be the bad guy instead.
So I am guessing when Rumple has a kid he names it Leo huh 🙄
Just think if they killed off my couple then Rumple will have his 2nd chance to raise Neal again 🙁

Yeah. Those quotes alone spell all kinds of awkward.

Snowing are a very different entity than a lot of the other characters and pairings on the show. They are an example of a ‘classic’ fairytale. You fall in love once, get married, and yes, though there have been trials and tribulations galore, they still are living ‘happily ever after’. Many of the other major couples do not represent ‘classic’ fairytale guidelines. Rumbelle, CS, OQ, and even SQ, are not first loves – they bring a completely different set of experiences to their relationships that Snowing just can’t understand by virtue of being ‘first loves’.
So when Snowing name their baby Neal, they’re not thinking about all of the baggage that name brings up for other people. They name him Neal to honor the fact that without Neal, Hook wouldn’t have gotten notice of the new curse, Emma wouldn’t have gotten back to Storybrooke, etc etc etc. In their eyes, it’s also a nod to Rumple, by extension by being Neal’s father, being a member of their family, and a tribute to their grandson Henry’s late father.
I very highly doubt Snowing think about the…relations… their daughter and Neal engaged in that resulted in said grandson ever, much less when they’re thinking about naming their child. Or the fact that there is a LOT of history between Emma and Neal they either just don’t know about, or can understand because they can’t relate to it.
They still should’ve stuck with Leopold though. Even Eva would have less controversy…!!
