Again I am still not ‘sure what to make of Aurora’s character yet because I feel like we are still being introduced to her character but I have a feeling they are going to be a big part of this season’s plot..so let the discussion begin.

In the Disney movie, Aurora is a blonde. But maybe that’s this Aurora’s mom? I’m interested to learn what she was talking about when she said she made a sacrifice.

October 14, 2012 at 5:59 am #156603fairytaleprincessParticipantI too am not quite sure what to think of her. I felt she was a bit stuck up…maybe even a bit of a brat. I can agree she was lost…you fall asleep and 28 years later your home is gone, evil is lurking around and a warrior comes to get you with your prince and the warrior is a woman…ya, I’d say she’s lost.
I also want to know what she sacrificed. Maybe that will explain her character better.October 15, 2012 at 4:59 pm #156785BelleOfTheBallParticipantI hope to see more of her back story but so far I don’t have much of a problem with her… granted she is not one of favorite characters yet. I think it is important that every character in FTL isnt a hardcore fighter that can protect themselves. I think that was a great twist on Snow White that we all fell in love with, but to make every character like that would get repetitive.
Aurora has been ripped away from her one true love a second time, with only half a day in between to see him. If i were her, I would be just as angry, just as vengeful, and just as frustrated – especially if I thought there was someone to place the blame on (MM and Emma).

She has shown to be very determined, even when people tell her that she cannot do something, she still goes out to make the attempt anyway.
Her hatred of Snow White was a bit misplaced obviously, but she quickly grew to respect her and Emma.

I shared those thoughts until I saw the episode. Sleeping Beauty is my favorite Disney movie and I was not sure about the whole brunette Aurora thing.
However, since this Phillip did not slay Maleficent before getting to his Aurora and since there have been ample references made to another sleeping beauty, I believe that we’re seeing a different sleeping beauty.
In the Disney version, some notable changes were made from the Perrault version. Disney made the princess a blonde, named her Aurora (which was the name of her daughter in the Perrault version), and had the Prince fight a dragon to get to her. In Perrault’s version, the sleeping princess was ‘nameless’ and a brunette.
I like what we’re seeing so far, but agree that more character development would be nice.

Like she said ” Perhaps it will help me channel my anger.” She is slowly growing in me but I think if will take another episode or two. I guess I thought she was a wimp so the fight scene between her and Snow helped me….gain her respect.

Yep, they’ve confirmed this:
Was it Aurora’s (Sarah Bolger) mother that Regina (Lana Parrilla) was referring to back in Season 1 who got the best of Maleficent (Kristin Bauer)?
Edward Kitsis: Yes.Might we ever see that?
Adam Horowitz: We might!Taken from this article, which is sorta spoilery, so don’t click if you don’t wanna know stuff: http://www.tvguide.com/News/Once-Upon-Time-Spoilers-Horowitz-Kitsis-1054834.aspx
When it was announced that we’d be getting Aurora, everyone assumed that we’d be getting the Sleeping Beauty we all know. Turns out she’s actually a different character, which I think was clever of them, because it means they can tell Aurora’s story, which has elements of her mother’s, so it not completely foreign to us, and then they can also tell us the actual Sleeping Beauty story as they move ahead in developing Aurora’s character. Two fairytales for the price of one. 😉
I’m looking forward to seeing more of her story, to see how she ended up in the same position as her mother, and what this sacrifice is she mentioned.
Here’s how the casting call described her:
Female, early to mid 20s. Born into a life of wealth and privilege, Anastasia was raised every bit the polished princess. But beneath the shiny veneer of a spoiled young girl beats the heart of a woman willing to sacrifice everything for love.
The “spoiled young girl” vibe has bugged me a time or two, but I’m waiting for them to flesh out the character a bit more before I decide just how much that’s gonna bug me once we get to know her properly.
PS. I’m completely in love with her dress and want one for my very own.
