Viking ship
Leaning toward Pirate ship given the context and the complexity of the ship in the SSTR pic.
[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 2, 2013 at 8:58 pm #190731HappyEndingsSpectatorSo what kind of ship is it? It still doesn’t look like a pirate ship to me, what kind of sails have the red cross on them? ❓
It is = The Ship as a Symbol of Christianity
The ship has been a symbol of the church since the first century. This is perhaps due to the recurrence of stories involving ships in the Bible from the Noah narrative to the several New Testament stories of Jesus, the sea of Galilee, the calming of the the storm, etc.
I wonder because the FL story was connected to Christians, example: Ruth, David etc.
I wish I could get that photo of the sail and ship that has it on it but for some reason I can’t do it like everyone does 😥

Now, England’s St. George’s Cross flag is also white with a red cross but it is not triangular as the one above.

Yes, I agree. It’s St. George’s Cross and I think what we are dealing with here is normative iconographic depiction. In other words, people expect there to be a giant red cross on a ship because there often is. I for one did not bat an eye at the cross on the sail because it didn’t register to me as strange. By placing the Cross on the sail, you are ascribing to the cultural norm and, in this case probably, enticing the consumer to purchase the product. The children wanted a ship to play with (as so many children do) and the manufacturers make a ship that is ascetically pleasing while still ascribing to cultural norms thus heightening the likelihood that it will be purchased.
Is the ship a pirate ship? Maybe or maybe not. I think in this case, the ship can be whatever the child wants it to be.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 3, 2013 at 3:10 am #190783PheeParticipantIt may well be that the cross on the sail is really just a random red cross on a sail on a generic prop. Though the fact that the page TheGoldenKey linked to is talking about that cross as a symbol used by the Freemasons gave me an “O RLY” moment, given the discussions we’ve been having about the Darlings being involved in the secretive organisation that GOAT are working for.

Then is St George = King George in FL ❓

No, the crest of George’s kingdom doesn’t have a cross on it.

St. George is a prominent saint who is best known for slaying a dragon, which may have been where A and E came up with his name.
