I seriously doubt that the OUAT powers that be would have just said, “OK, welp, we’ll write you out for a bit,” without discussing the options of how to accomodate her and what her preference was.
And it’s not new to Emilie either. She did take an entire season off from LOST. Name was removed from the credits and everything.
[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"December 2, 2015 at 12:51 pm #313390nevermoreParticipantI suppose you could say this is all for story, but, just like some people were upset that Hook and Emma were going to move in together without getting married I’m upset that for a minute there I felt like OUAT was romanticizing an abusive relationship.
I actually don’t think Rumbelle are particularly romanticized, especially in the later seasons, but I think OUAT is often consciously written in a divisive way, so to that different audiences see different things. Either way, since S3B, Rumbelle writing has been both repetitive and inconsistent — which I think reinforces the sense that the relationship is a cycle of abuse: it’s because the same set of events/tropes repeat over and over and over, and there is no real progress. I don’t know if that’s conscious effort on the part of the writers or just laziness and the inability to develop that relationship, as @Josephine suggested. I suspect the latter. RC and EdR manage (most of the time) to pull off the clunky crazypants disaster that is the Rumbelle script through sheer acting talent and good screen chemistry.
Case in point, none of the couples on the show are particularly likable anymore. Snowing fluctuate between self-centered and imbecilic. CS has just upped the ante, and went to a whole new level of toxic. The fact that Outlaw Green Queen is the least offensive relationship is saying a lot. Even the minor couples, like Arhur and Guinevere, are all kinds of wrong.
December 3, 2015 at 6:38 am #313480PriceofMagicParticipantSomeone came up with a theory for why RumBelle have split up again.
Okay guys, I know we’re all a bit broken hearted, but here are my thoughts. I think Hook made a deal with Belle. She makes Rumple believe that she’s left him and in exchange, Hook promises to spare Rumple’s life.
Hear me out:
We all know that Hook is hell-bent on revenge, but we also know that he tends to prefer the kind that is long lasting suffering. He is also a Dark One, perfectly capable of killing a very mortal Rumple- and Belle knows this. So, he offers her a deal (in true Dark One fashion). She makes Rumple believe that she’s left him (complete with packing her stuff and leaving the shop, which is the spoiler from the finale that I saw filmed) and Hook guarantees Rumple’s safety in return. Hook has already acknowledged that Belle is Rumple’s heart. Losing her would devastate him (thus his revenge) plus perhaps make him doubt himself enough to stay out of the way of Hook’s Underworld plot, which we can assume is his larger focus.
I think we all agree that Belle was very much out of character during that well scene. Well, this could explain why. And that’s not to say that some of what she said isn’t valid or based on real truths and fears, but that perhaps she used them and exaggerated them because she knew he would believe them.
I mean, look at her reaction as she walks away:
http://33.media.tumblr.com/d590e567bd95510122d89abe056873af/tumblr_inline_nynqwx1UNL1tax8o6_540.gifShe looks hesitant, as if she’s trying to force herself to keep going, to not look back.
And perhaps, this scene…
http://33.media.tumblr.com/16c2fd0918d1ca008bfaaf11f18f95e5/tumblr_inline_nynqyuEkvG1tax8o6_500.gif…is more than meets the eye. See, we all know Belle is Rumple’s heart. But he is also hers. Maybe THAT is what she’s protecting: him. By walking away to keep him safe.
We know the show has pulled something similar with S1 Snowing.
However…
I can’t and won’t reveal, and I completely understand if anyone doesn’t buy this ……BUT (and I think it’s relatively positive)…this is essentially what I was told:
Emilie is very happy and healthy and she CAN work, and wants to work. Currently she’s not being written in (”not her choice”), but she hasn’t been told that she’s been written off.
What this tells me is that Belle’s absence is for storyline reasons. If Adam and Eddy had written her out of the season, they would have told her. It sounds like she’s not in at least the next two episodes – if she were, she’d have gotten a script. I’m going to hope that maybe she’ll be back for an episode or two after the new year, when they return to filming.
I also want to add, and THIS pisses me off, almost to the point where I wish Emilie would leave, even at the expense of Rumbelle:
All I can say is that it’s been over a month since she’s been in Vancouver. And that she’s not happy with being left out. Can’t say much else. Sorry! Hopefully she’ll be back on soon. Again- I’m saying this mostly so you (and others can believe or not) know that it’s not her choice to not be working, and that she’s completely healthy didn’t ask for any time off or anything like that to that effect.
Over a month? I believe that would be around episode 12 because we had that holiday break. It’s possible she MIGHT have filmed early on for that, but it’s also possible she hasn’t filmed since 5×11.
I honestly have NO idea how she still stays on the show; they disrespect her as an actress constantly. I’m glad she’s upset and I think Adam and Eddy are bastards, sorry, but not sorry. It wouldn’t surprise me if they did write her off and didn’t tell her.
This is from betsypaige who used to post here. She claims it’s from a reliable source but obviously make of it what you will.

Keeper of FelixDecember 3, 2015 at 9:47 am #313488JosephineParticipantFrom what I’ve gathered on tumblr from various blogs (yeah, not the most reliable sources) Emilie hasn’t even been in Vancouver for over a month and not in at least the last three episodes. This is really par for the course, but it also doesn’t look good for Rumbelle or Belle fans.
I’m at the point I’ve written them off completely. I have to admit, I’m not an easier shipper. I don’t do it often in shows or stories but when I do it’s pretty hardcore. To actually kill my love of an onscreen ship is a feat. I will still like it in fanon but I’m done with being emotionally invested in this show. Not even Bobby can pull me back in.

December 3, 2015 at 10:02 am #313489RumplesGirlKeymasterHonestly, I think that theory is giving too much credit to the show and writers. Was it weird for Belle? Sure. But it’s not like the writers are even trying for character consistency at this point.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"December 3, 2015 at 12:35 pm #313502KebParticipantIf they drop Belle completely I don’t know what I’m watching for anymore. I don’t think they’d do that…but…there are other things I didn’t think they’d do either.

December 3, 2015 at 12:42 pm #313503nevermoreParticipantUgh. If that info is correct, then shame on the show runners. My guess though is that if Belle is being put on the shelf, it’s not so much for story (such as it is), or even because of EdR’s pregnancy, but a question of prioritizing the limited resource of screen time in favor of other plot points/actors.
@Josephine is spot on, the fandom has so much more to offer to Rumbelle fans than OUAT itself at this point. I think that A&E, and the writing team more broadly, have told all the stories they had in them about these characters, but they just don’t know when to stop. I don’t think they particularly care about the quality of their storytelling. It’s just bu$ne$$. -
