My question is if Merlin prophesied that the Savior will save him why didn’t he told King Arthur the Savior name is Emma unless King Arthur knows Emma is the savior and he has another agenda besides making excibular whole which make me think he the reason Merlin is stuck in the tree to begin with and the twist will be that King Arthur isn’t the true King and  maybe Snow and Charming son is because if I remember correctly in a episode of Charmed the first born child was prophesied to wield excibular since Emma is the Savior and equally powerful maybe Snow and Charming son is destined to wield excibular I don’t know just a thought

    Ooh, good theory! 😎

And it would make for equal parts irony and symmetry too, since Charming once tricked Snow with the fake Excalibur! 😯

Merlin may not have known her name at the time. Rumpel knew the savior would break the curse, but even he had to ask Snow and Charming what the babies name would be.

Merlin knew Emma’s name at the movie theater, but Emma had already been born and several years old, so he could have just learned at.

Ah, but the Apprentice told Ingrid that the Savior’s name would be Emma, and that was several years before Emma was born! And if the Apprentice knew, surely the info came from Merlin!

Maybe Merlin was working against the dark one? Both were separately trying to get the information they needed to complete their goal before the other one could complete theirs.

    Wow, good point!

Maybe Arthur put Merlin in the tree (beause perhaps Merlin caught on to some shady plan of Arthur’s, refused to tell him the name of the Savior, and to punish him he put him in the tree using some miracle magical plot device that is somehow stronger than Merlin) and is now using the situation to root out the Savior to get rid of them so that the DO is free to reunite excalibur with the dagger. Or the other way round; he needs to double check who the savior is, and then root out the DO so that the savior can put the two parts of the sword together?

Or maybe Nimue/Morgana/evil person put him in there because he was about to tell Arthur the name of the savior.

I just got the feeling that Merlin knew the name of the savior and refused to say it.

Or that it is just yet another plot hole.

With the new information regarding Arthur having alterior motives maybe Merlin did prophesize that the saviors name was Emma. Arthur new the storybrooke gang was lying about it, but he wanted to keep quiet in order to gain their trust and learn more about why they would lie.
