I’m not worried at all about Gold. This scene with Whale is part of his act, that’s all. He doesn’t have to go bat crazy for Lacey nor does he have to constantly show off his power; he just has to do enough to keep up her interest long enough for her to grow to really care about and then love him. IMO, he’s not going to succumb to his dark side because that’s not who he wants to be – and he’s got hope now so he’s not in the depths of despair as he was when he first started beating on Keith.
The only times Gold would need to put on an act are the times when he’s with Lacey in public. If he’s alone, there’s no point and if they are alone together, then why bother?
Clearly Neal is going to see the Whale scene and completely misinterpret it. I think this will eventually lead to Gold pouring his heart out to Lacey, telling her the truth and saying that he may have lost his son (who appears to have disappeared) by putting on this act. I think he will tell her how much he loves her and that he’s going to honor Belle and their love, and his son, by not pursuing this path. He will tell her that she doesn’t need bad boys, “boys” who can’t love her like she should be loved……and then he will say, IMO, that he hopes she can love him or grow to love him for who he is and wants to be. Whatever it is he says, we know that, per Bobby, we find out what Gold is up to at the end of #22, so I think this is it…….and he also said that everything “turns around in that moment”. To me, that is when Lacey realizes she loves Gold – we get TLK and voila. Emilie said we’d get a very relevant, very very beautiful and emotional moment in the finale. I’m certain Belle gets her memories back…..
Gold is going to fight desperately to restore the woman he loves, but he’s not going to cross any lines and he’s not going to do anything REALLY bad or nasty……I’m just really looking forward to this.
