I wish we knew what was happening (plot wise) in 3×14, so we could get a better feel on why Repunzel is appearing. If it’s a flashback, it’ll have to parallel something happening in the present.
Ditto.
If we go by history (excluding the first half of season three) 314 is the third episode of this second half of the season, so that would make it a Snow story.
312 = no centric (though lord only know what is actually happening with 312)
313 = “Witch Hunt” and maybe Regina
314 = Snow and Rapunzel.

I’ve felt there are certain similarities between Mother Gothel and Regina, though Gothel in the Disney movie gets pushed all the way to uncaring villain in the end. She could have raised Rapunzel to be like an animal, with limited knowledge of how to do anything, but she gave her books, paints, food and sort of seemed to have a twisted, manipulative but still emotional connection with her as a “daughter”–until she was no longer useful of course and then she chained her up against her will to continue using her!
Now I’m wondering, is Rapzunel at 14 a character in a flashback or one we might meet present day? If flashback, would she have any relation to any characters we’ve met before or not? Entirely new world? So many questions, it might leave you pulling out some hair!

Interesting! I thought they were staying away from Rapunzel for a bit since Tangled is so recent but changing things up and doing their own twist on it makes sense! Looking forward to seeing how she fits in (and why 3×14? WHAT IS GOING ON?? I’m so lost at this point with the 2nd half of the season stuff but looking forward to figuring out how she relates to everything!) and it sounds like she’s a fan of the show which is always a good sign! Can’t wait to see what part of the puzzle Rapunzel brings!
Not gonna lie, a little shocked that they’re making her 14. I’m…extremely confused. I hope this means that we’re focusing on HER story. (Wonder what they’re setting up to parallel to that!) I was really expecting to see Rapunzel AND Flynn and that they’d be roughly the same age as all the other Disney Princesses are or 18 since her story in Tangled takes place around her 18th birthday so I’m very confused/curious to see what story they want to tell about her at 14. (Bummed we don’t get Mandy and Zac but that would have been too obvious of a nod I think, though good for ratings I’m sure). Unless she starts as 14 and then ages up. Not sure how old the actress is but could it be a Freya type situation where we see a little bit of time pass and she can play younger than her age?
Since this could technically be off any version of the story, I doubt we’ll actually get Flynn, especially if she’s only 14 and he’s not supposed to meet her until she’s 18. I’m sure I’d learn to love it like almost everything else about this show and it would probably end up being super adorable and I’d love it in a different way, I’m just having trouble letting that idea sink in right now if they go that route and have them meet and stay younger (I’d rather they didn’t but could be swayed once it airs like with everything else).
For right now it sounds like we have an awesome (albeit younger than expected) Rapunzel which has a lot of potential and that much I’m really looking forward to!
Have to keep an open mind to what we haven’t actually seen yet because there’s no point in hating things without context and not giving them a chance. I’m sure Rapunzel will be wonderful, I’m just trying to imagine what that might mean for Flynn. If they do a highlight reel type thing where we see her age a bit, starting at 14, then it could end on a hopeful note with her meeting Flynn and going away around her 18th birthday. It would leave it hopeful but open for another appearance if they want to tell that story and wouldn’t make Flynn 14 in the process which I would appreciate. (He’s my favorite, I’m kinda attached and not looking forward to the idea that if we see him at all he might be a teenager. I’m sure I’d love him either way, but it’s tough!)
I wonder what her story will be and who it relates to though. I’m looking forward to a princess story that’s just about the princess since most of the time their stories are tied in with their guys. It’s one of the criticisms of the show that the princesses are tied up too much in their love lives and don’t have solo stories that show off how awesome they are so that could be really good, especially as an introduction for a character we don’t know yet! Wondering how her story is contained within the one episode though (for now) and what that story might be / who it will parallel with! Plus she’s got to be connected to someone somehow, so it probably won’t just be a random flashback. She’ll have to interact with someone and have a purpose for being there so I’m very very curious what that connection will be!
Always a little concerned since I’ve learned throughout the show that the stories I realllly love the Disney versions of are kinda lackluster for me, whereas the ones I didn’t care for much have really won me over (see: Snow) so I’ll wait and see. I still love all of it within the show, I just am more invested in the characters that are from the movies I least liked than I am the ones I expected to really love (for the most part) so we’ll have to see. I really want to love what they do with Rapunzel though, even if that means not seeing Flynn or making him far too young for me (*sniff*) so anxiously awaiting 3×14 so we can see what A&E do with her story!
They’ve already pretty much erased Shang so they could easily do the same with Flynn. I love him and it would be sad but that said, I am really looking forward to seeing what this actress does with Rapunzel! They’re not remaking Disney movies (they’ve already strayed away from some of them like Mulan – I was really hoping for Shang =/) so at least we have the originals to love as well as their twists on it. It’s hard letting go of the way you see those movies but we’ll have to wait and see what they do with it! This would be one of the stories they could easily go off in a different direction with so I’m not surprised they’re choosing to do that. It’s tough cause it’s very popular right now and a fan favorite so it’s dicey territory to enter into but at the same time would make a lot of sense. Doesn’t make me any less concerned for my personal favorite but I have to trust A&E to continue making a story I love so I’m anxious to see how she fits into everything!
I’m sure she will be awesome (and I expect nothing less!). I’m thinking for this appearance at least, they did some casting without putting out calls for it. Surely we see someone from her story OTHER than just Rapunzel, perhaps a Mother Gothel type figure etc, yet we’re only hearing about Rapunzel. So I’m curious to see who else is involved in that. It does sound like a one-episode thing for now but we could see her again (and probably will). So who else did they sneak by us and why?
Other than the potential age issue for Flynn (if we even get him at all)…looking forward to it! Rapunzel is a favorite so I’m thrilled we get to see her (though cautiously optimistic about the storyline and direction they go in with her – I’ve been burned before on other stories I’ve always loved). Seriously though, what is going on with the 2nd half of season 3???

I’m betting this means no Flynn. And really Flynn is Disney’s creation isn’t he? The Prince in the traditional story isn’t named. (the traditional story is also incredibly horrible)

They’ve used the Disney character names whenever they could. Ursula, Ariel, Eric, Aurora, Phillip, Maleficent, the names of the dwarfs, Gus, etc are all Disney creations.

No I get that. I’m saying that “Flynn Ryder” doesn’t necessarily need to be associated with Rapunzel. Given that shes 14 I think we’re going to get the “locked in a tower with super long long long long hair” portion but not the “romantic princess/prince” love story. Which I’m all for because Tangled is great, but they don’t NEED to and another love story on top of this. Before she fell in love with a prince, she was a poor girl locked in a tower! There’s enough drama there for an episode without it becoming “reunite with my one true love!”
