Just throwing this out there: In Into The Woods, Rapunzel’s hair was going to be used in a potion to cure the witch of her ugliness. In Tangled, Rapunzel’s hair actually has healing powers. Maybe Rapunzel’s role will be to have her hair be used as a cure? To make a potion?
And there’s a new curse coming, maybe her hair will be part of what is needed to break it.

Or perhaps her tears? I just read the Grimm version that RG linked to, and Rapunzel’s tears cure the Prince of his blindness, and they kept the healing tears bit in Tangled, though they used it differently. We’ve seen tears have magical properties before, but only when two people’s were mixed together. Maybe Rapunzel’s tears have a unique power.
It could be fun to see Maleficent in the Gothel role. They designed her castle to look quite tower-ish.

I wonder if she might be the one who drew the picture of Henry if they keep personality traits of Disney Tangled princess, she is an artist (among other hobbies!).
Or if they are doing an AU–what if instead of Henry she is the one that Regina adopts?

That’d be interesting, but in order for this theory to hold up, Rapunzel would have to be a seer, like the girl we saw in 2×14.

Well not necessarily, Slurpeez, with magic it can work in many different ways. She could have prophetic abilities that simply come out that what she draws comes true, but she isn’t blind and actively sifting puzzle pieces in her mind the way the Seer appeared to be.
If you think about types of prophecy or future-reading, you have things like horoscopes, birth-charts, tea leaves, crystal balls, ominous warnings from old stories, and who knows what else. They could tap into greek myths about oracles.
Maybe she could even be the third spinner some of us suspect might exist!

Rumple is a seer without being blinded. Perhaps Rapunzel is a seer of some sort, but the point is she’d have to glimpse the future somehow (either crystal ball, prophesy, visions, etc…). So, we’re agreed that she’d have to somehow know the future, but the question remains how?

Ya know I’ve always thought they Prince Phillip was from Rapunzels kingdom. They sun emblem from is chest plate seems like the symbol of her kingdom. Screenshots anyone?

Given what Phee just pointed out about Rapunzel’s tears in the original story, she could have some magical eyes.

Have been thinking a bit more about the Maleficent/Gothel potential, and the timing of it could maybe make sense?

She didn’t specify a destination, but it was around the time they’d have been about to start shooting 313. So maybe the “Witch Hunt” title could refer to Maleficent, and we might get more of Aurora’s backstory? Kristen Bauer van Straten seems to have been in LA as of a day ago though, so that doesn’t really work, unless she’s just not needed to shoot much stuff. Anyway, if they had a story like that for 313, then it could potentially lead into a Rapunzel/Maleficent story for 314.I dunno, it’s all just crackpot speculation really, based off how Maleficent’s castle has some epic towers, and she traditionally screwed up the life of a young girl, and Phillip’s armour resembles the symbol of Rapunzel’s kingdom from Tangled, so maybe it all ties together somehow where he met Aurora through some mutual Maleficent dramas.
