Oh, I agree RG! There are definitely people who are crossing the line! I just don’t like *everyone* getting lumped in that category.
[adrotate group="5"]The people who are calling foul on Rapunzel not looking like the traditional Rapunzel, need to remember that this is a different take on the fairytales we know.
Jack turned out to be a girl. Red is the wolf. If they’re upset now that Rapunzel isn’t white, stop watching the show.

For Episode 14, the show is casting the possibly recurring role of a teenage African-American female who comes across as skittish and timid, having had her naturally curious and determined spirit tempered by years of crippling fear. I like that Once is different and Adam and Eddie are willing to take some artistic liberties with the stories. If all of was going to be the same as the stories we knew growing up, I’d probably still watch a bit but it wouldn’t hold my attention that much. I love Alternate Universe stories.
I don’t think it’s fair to judge the actress before she even debuts anyway. We don’t know what Adam and Eddie have planned for her.

I think they are going with the traditional tale of Rapunzel. In fact why are we comparing this to Disney? I always thought that A & E were trying to stick with the original stories.

Ariel & Eric are not the names in the original Little Mermaid story, and in that the mermaid doesn’t get her man, so they definitely did a Disney version there. Much as I loved “Tangled” and would like some nods (say a frying pan and an artist Rapunzel….) I wouldn’t mind if they cut stuff like Flynn or Gothel –that’s similar to how they truncated a lot of Mulan far as Disney and definitely the abbreviated Aurora and Phillip’s tales, and Belle fans could probably go on forever about all the things they wish they’d seen from BaTB.
I’m not stuck on sticking to Live Action Disney and never have been (anyone reading my wackier theories knows that…mash away, mash away!) but I also do like a few easter egg nods too (like I did enjoy the Dinglehopper…).

This is the basic gist: - I think Once has a 50/50. It does have aspects of the original, but at the same time its mostly the Disney version with just a dash of difference. -Rapunzel got her magic glowing hair by a drop of the sun falling in our flower, yada yada. Rumpel has a bottle with the label of the sun in the shelf where he keeps True Love and all that other magic he bottled. Can we get screenshots? We can compare it to the image in the film of the sun symbol, and of Prince Phillips chestplate which bears the same symbol
