I’m really curious as to whether they will stick closer to the original story or if they are going to mainly pull from the Disney version, or perhaps something in the middle with stuff of their own tossed in.

Indeed! If he’s recurring, then I’d say her role will be significant. Which brings me to…

If Ariel is gonna be significant in present day, it probably means we’re gonna see parts of her history in multiple eps, which could be why Eric is “recurring”, because he’ll be in multiple flashbacks over the course of Ariel’s storyline.

😛Would have been nice to get a bit more description of him. At least we’ve had clarified that Liam in 305 won’t be Eric, though.

I really hope they have a little from each version, plus their own spin on it. The Disney version wouldn’t even exist if not for Anderson’s version.
August 27, 2013 at 11:41 pm #206942SlurpeezParticipantOkay, in order for everyone to have their cake and eat it too, I propose the following:
– As a young adult, Ariel became infatuated with Captain Hook, the dashing pirate who came to NL. However, Hook was too bent on revenge and still reeling over the loss of Milha to really take Ariel’s feelings seriously. While flattered and flirtatious, Hook wasn’t looking for anything serious or anything close to a lifetime commitment that Ariel was (she was willing to trade her fins for legs after all). Cue Hans Christian Anderson unrequited love (minus the suicide). However, Ariel approached the Sea Witch and got a do-over at being a mermaid. But she paid a great price. Maybe she traded a key element that Regina (disguised as Ursula) required to cast the dark cruse.
– Because this is a show about hope, Ariel got a second chance to be a mermaid, meet Prince Eric, and would have lived happily ever after if that lousy curse hadn’t gotten in the way. Doh, why did Ariel make that stupid deal with that crazy Evil Queen again? Now, Ariel is stuck in NL while Eric, being from the EF, is now stuck in SB. Now, Ariel will help the JR6 in present-day NL in exchange for passage aboard the ship back to SB to find her long lost love, Prince Eric in 3×11 and beyond.

August 28, 2013 at 12:16 am #206946PheeParticipantIf Eric is still alive in present day, then I do think he’ll be in SB, just because I don’t imagine that NL is populated by a great many regular people. If he and Ariel fell in love in FTL, what reason would there be for them to go back and live in NL? And what other reason could have taken him there? Hook went there specifically to have enough time to plot revenge. Lost Boys get taken there by PP. Doesn’t seem like the type of place a regular human like Eric would go to unless they had a very specific reason.
The thing with having him in SB though, is that it means adding even more to the cast. Once we get back to SB, we’ll be wanting to re-connect with the people there who we already know, and trying to include Eric with everyone else, I just dunno. We’re already gonna have Robin added to the already known SB crew of Belle, Granny, (hopefully) Red, Archie, Whale, the Dwarves, etc. And they’ve said that they don’t plan to introduce any more major characters right now, apart from those who had already been announced. Taking that into consideration, I suspect Eric may only be seen in flashbacks.
August 28, 2013 at 8:07 am #206953SlurpeezParticipantI am little bit confused. I thought Eric will only be in the past…
We don’t know if Eirc will appear in the past, present or future. All we know is that his role will be reoccurring, meaning he’ll show up in more than one episode starting with 3×6.

August 28, 2013 at 8:07 am #206954SlurpeezParticipantEric is probably alive in the present day, just stuck in a different realm from Ariel.

August 28, 2013 at 8:27 am #206960PriceofMagicParticipantI think Eric will be seen in flashbacks in 306 then we won’t see him again until the second half of season 3. Recurring doesn’t mean he’s going to be recurring in the first 11 episodes.

I think he will be in flashbacks too and like Ariel perhaps in a couple of episodes no more than that.
August 28, 2013 at 8:36 am #206964obisgirlParticipantUm, just want to make one correction. In the Disney The Little Mermaid, it’s Prince Eric with a c. It’s kinda bothered me for a couple pages seeing his name with a ‘k’.
Anyway. Carry on now.
August 28, 2013 at 8:51 am #206969RumplesGirlKeymasterYeah, I think Eric is going to be a flashback in 306. We’ll see Ariel a bit (306 and 311) in present day NL but really her story begins when we get back to SB. Either Eric is in SB like a few people have suggested and waiting on Ariel or married to someone else (that’s how it goes in the original) or he’s dead.
