I think if Eric was dead, he’d be a guest star rather than recurring. Even if he appeared in more than one episode. Milah was in more than one episode but was classed as a guest star, so was Mad Hatter.

Keeper of FelixI did some hunting around and it appears that recurring means a minimum of 5 episodes, generally, this can differ but 5 seemed to be the most common number. After that they can be brought back in depending on storyline. Obviously for a show like this, those 5 episodes can come in anywhere and anytime. I think it’s more likely that we’ll see Eric in the past first and then once part two of the season hits, he’ll be in present day SB.
Interesting. I did not know that. Eric must definitely be alive then. They wouldn’t give us 5 episodes of a dead character in flashback.

Keeper of FelixUm, just want to make one correction. In the Disney The Little Mermaid, it’s Prince Eric with a c. It’s kinda bothered me for a couple pages seeing his name with a ‘k’.
Anyway. Carry on now.
Did someone find and replace the “Erik”‘s with “Eric” for you? Because I didn’t see it in the posts. I know what you mean though, when I see Bella instead of Belle. But that changes the sound of the name.
Or is it originally Erik and we’re all spelling it Eric?
“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?” -- Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass
So Milah was in 2 (guest star)
Jeferson was in 5 (by my count) but I think they were more interested on capitalizing Sebastien’s name as a big guest star in this case. Using the whole “special guest star Sebastien Stan” for promos is a marketing thing.
I agree 5 episodes is too much for a dead character in a flashback, especially when it’s the flashback of another recurring star (Ariel).
Just went and looked up Smee on the OUAT Wiki. His casting call said “may be recurring” and he ended up appearing in 3 eps.
Smee has appeared in at least 4 episodes:
The Crocodile
The Outsider
Second Star to the right (At the very end)
And Straight on ’til Morning
If we end up seeing more of Hook’s time in Neverland, it is likely we’ll see Smee too. Also someone may derat him in Storybrooke or he may automatically be deratted by Rumple leaving Stroybrooke to go to Neverland.

Keeper of FelixCorrect, he was in 4. For some reason they don’t list him as having appeared in The Outsider on the Wiki, they just have him listed as “mentioned” and I just counted up the “appears” without thinking about it. But he was definitely in The Outsider.
There is no hard and fast rule, I guess. Jefferson was in 5 but they said guest star because they were banking on Sebby’s name because it’s promotable.
