The only problem I can think of with that, Kranen, is that we haven’t seen him at all in SB. To suddenly insert him into the town during the S2 action seems like they’re reaching a bit. Unless he’s there *after* the JR set sail, which I would be ok with.

They didn’t have the go ahead for this spin off, or the characters cast, during the whole of the shooting of season 2 of OUAT, so I can suspend belief enough to accept that he was there, even if we didn’t see him. Perhaps he’s been hiding out at Jefferson’s place? Maybe they were in WL at the same time in the past, and Jefferson saw Cyrus wandering around SB looking lost and took him in and convinced him to lay low?
June 5, 2013 at 1:32 pm #197302RumplesGirlKeymasterIf Cyrus is in SB, then he would have to be somewhere out of the way, like Jefferson’s house. And his appearance of the first time would need to be very quiet, like the woods, because a portal suddenly appearing in SB during S2 would have been a big deal. I guess that’s my issue. If he is in SB during the events of S2 then he had to come via portal and *someone* would have noticed.

Unless Cyrus is disguised as someone else to avoid recognition! He’s a powerful genie after all, and so shape-shifting wouldn’t be beyond his ability. There was also this spoiler:
TV Guide: Also look for the spin-off to feature other lands in a mash-up style similar to Once that may make you question who a past character really was.

Totally possible. That spoiler makes me think that Sydney was really Jafar after Aladdin defeated him and that Cyrus is the Genie of the Lamp.

Well, as Kranen mentioned on the previous page, there’s that shot in the promo (which I’m guessing even the spoilerphobes have seen, but I’ll use the tags just to be on the safe side) of what appears to be a portal opening up in the middle of Granny's Diner, and it has the same orange glow happening as in the scene where we see Cyrus falling. If that scene in Granny's is in the promo, then it has to have been in the pilot, and given that the pilot wasn't full length, they wouldn't have put stuff in there that wasn't significant. So I think it's highly likely that that's a portal opening up for Cyrus to come through, and once he pops up, the portal closes again and the Diner floor is back in one piece like it never happened. The place looks empty, so there wouldn't be anyone around to witness it, and he could sneak out into SB undetected. Maybe we could get a cameo of Granny thinking she hears something, and she goes to check it out, but by the time she gets there, he's gone.

We keep being told that the wraith in the Season 2 premiere is very important.
What if the portal opened as the wraith was on the loose through Storybrooke? Any damage that the portal may have done inside the diner could just have been blamed on the wraith.
And as Eddy & Adam have said numerous times, Storybrooke is a very large town. That would explain why we may not have seen him.
June 6, 2013 at 12:59 pm #197390RumplesGirlKeymasterThe portal has to open when no one is looking. Two guesses
1) Just after the Curse is broken and everyone is off finding loved ones and hiding from the Wraith2) That portal opens later in the season of OUAT but still in the pilot of OUATinWL, and it opens after Snow and Charming and Emma go to the mines to help Regina and everyone in the diner leaves to tell the town what the Charmings are going to do.

I think the first scenario is the likeliest. Going back to the first part of the aforementioned spoiler:
Let us take a look back to what executive producer Edward Kitsis told reporters before the show was picked up to series: “Wonderland takes place post-curse, so the pilot actually starts when magic comes and the Wraith happens.” Note the Wraith, because that's very important to where the spin-off actually picks up, with fans seeing a different character's point of view that won't make you angry.
Angry is a synonym for “mad” which is probably code for the Mad Hatter. This makes me think that the portal opens up in Granny's around when we see Jefferson trapped in his flipped car due to Wraith reeking havoc in SB.

Yeah I'd been thinking that the “angry” was meant to be a hint at “mad” as in Hatter.
Jefferson's car flipped across the road from Granny's:

http://screencapped.net/tv/onceuponatime/displayimage.php?album=255&pid=1636342#top_display_mediaNotice that the chairs are up on the table behind them, that's because the Diner was closed at the time, because Granny and Red were with everyone else at the Town Hall:
