When Rumple was standing next to Belle by the MIRROR OF DOOM he did not have a reflection. Is this because he is the Dark One? What does that mean about Ingrid, who does have a reflection?
And what’s up the evil taunting???

Maybe because the dark one is already brings out the worst in Rumple the mirror can’t do anything to make him even more evil.

November 3, 2014 at 12:42 am #288658Sci-Fi GirlParticipantMaybe while the mirror had a spell cast over Belle, it was exclusively doing that, and so didn’t show anything else. It was locked onto Belle, and linked only to her in that moment.
But later it was not active, and so showed Rumple just fine. Also, Ingrid said something about how “easy” it was for the mirror to “turn” Belle. So it’s not always an instant process.
Maybe it was so easy because Belle was already conflicted, and struggling with guilt that she was trying to make up for. So basically she only needed a small nudge for her own darkness to bubble over at that moment.
Whereas Rumple has had centuries to learn to control and use his darkness. As the Dark One, its like his main thing. And so it’s much harder for an external force to co-opt his darkness.

November 3, 2014 at 1:02 am #288660SlurpeezParticipantBelle’s conversation with her own reflection was excellently done. It just goes to show that EdR is a really good actress. She got some meaty scenes, and this ought to prove she can handle them! Also, anyone think Belle’s reflection was actually telling her lots of truth she didn’t want to hear? After all, her reflection told her things things that at least have elements of truth: Rumple gave her a fake danger, Rumple is using her, and Rumple is manipulating her.

Yup, things she probably has tucked away in the back of her mind all the time, the kind of things we try to avoid thinking about, but they’re still there nonetheless, and the magical mirror drew them out and made her confront them, like a bad dream draws things from our subconscious.

I assumed it showed her subconscious fears (and that those personal fears and doubts if brought to the surface of everyone could destroy the town). After all, we’ve seen her self-doubting in Dark Hollow, so it wouldn’t be too far off for her to doubt that the all mighty Dark One could love her and to entrust her with the dagger.
November 3, 2014 at 1:16 am #288664MatthewPaulModeratorThis episode actually did a good job playing with my mind, in regards to whether Belle would find out the truth about Rumple or not. I initially thought “Nah, too early. Seems like a reveal for a later episode during this half of the Season”, but there were moments that made me re-consider. Like Belle finding the Sorcerer hat with Anna and being told about Rumple back in the flashback, and the whole scene with Belle and the mirror. Especially when Belle actually did suspect the dagger was fake, because Rumple went against her order of waiting outside, but once again tricky Rumple carefully found a loophole in Belle’s wording. All in all, this is going to make things even worse for Rumple once Belle does discover the truth.

I agree. Belle wants to believe Rumple is telling her the truth, that he wouldn’t lie to her, and that he trusted her enough to place the real dagger in her care. However, I think deep down, Belle knows Rumple is being duplicitous, dark, and secretive. While he loves her, she fears he married her because he can manipulate her. So far, Rumple has been manipulating her, ever since he proposed to her under false pretenses. He got away with murder because Belle placed her trust in him and believed he’d never kill Zelena after he said he wouldn’t or using magic to cover it up.
