Why I believe in Regal Arrow
Since news of Regina’s new love interest hit we’ve heard things like
- Someone …somewhere
- Someone new (Robin Hood is new in that he is a recast)
- He’d be introduced in the first five episodes in a big way/play an important roll
- All the while a recasting call went out for Robin Hood…
- On Once Upon a Time, magic always comes with a price, so did the magic that Robin Hood used to heal Marian come with a price? –Mirza
Damn straight it did. ‘“There’s a price — and a debt,” Adam Horowitz teases of Sean Maguire’s upcoming, Fairytale Land-based arc as the King of Thieves. - Please help us, we are all dying here! What else can you say about Regina’s new love interest/”special someone” on Once Upon a Time? –Ana
Fine, fine. I doubled back with the boys and Horowitz said that this “someone” “becomes a part of the show very quickly” – within the first five episodes – “but in a way that you don’t expect.” - Trying to be on her very best behavior, Regina/Evil Queen will find a surprising love connection in the third episode (Keck thought this I think because he thought that this was Hood’s first episode since Maguire wasn’t hired until the middle of July and only arrived in Van to film when they were shooting 303 and since thanks to the press release we know that Neal and Hood et al are not in 302 Keck probably wouldn’t have known that then.) — Perhaps with Robin Hood who will appear on Once. “Regina’s love has to be very manly, and Robin Hood is that,” Parrilla says. “I’m getting very excited.”
- Also they promoted Hood, sending those pictures into Entertainment Weekly…they’ve actually advertised Hood more than Neal…one reason to advertise someone and get a lot of talk going is if you intend to pair him with a female lead…
- Thankfully, Neal will find help in Robin Hood, who will repay his debt to Rumple via Neal. “Robin Hood’s story is just beginning,” says Kitsis. “We’re airing in two 11-episode pods. You’re going to get a little more into him in the beginning of this year, but we’re definitely going to get a lot of him in the second half. He’s a character we’re really excited about because he’s a thief, but he’s a thief with honor.” Also why keep Hood around after his arc with Neal, if not to be Regina’s love interest? The spoilers said we’d be seeing a lot of him too..OUAT doesn’t need more male leads…unless they’re pairing him up with someone…Robin Hood is on his way to Neverland with Neal…also Maguire retweeted Adam’s cast pic from last Friday….the only one he has..I suspect he’s lost with Regina perhaps
- And my biggest kicker for this belief came from Lana Parrilla herself when she said tweeted during her #asklana that “I have yet to meet him. You will meet him b4 she does…that’s if u haven’t already.” @e may even assume that Regina has yet to have met him as of 3:05 which would make sense if he was not in Neverland and Lana wouldn’t be filming scenes with him yet. (and I don’t think Neal makes it to Neverland until 3.07

As an aside on this most Regals have never ‘shipped’ Regina with anyone but Daniel….and we love Hood, he’s always been one of my favorite legends…I think they’d be great together he seems sassy and a man of honor! I think Regina needs to decide who she wants to be and I think she needs to decide who she wants to be for herself…and Hood is a bit morally grey anyway…the spoilers also said expect steam and heat…Regals are excited to see it…

Way way back when we did one of the “Who is Regina’s next love” after Daniel said “love again” and we all tossed out names of mythological/classic story love interests, Robin Hood seemed to generate a lot of interest of the type of character personality that seemed to fit the bill. Then he got cast last season along with Marian, and I thought well there goes that. After all the teases this time around though, I’m definitely thinking the same way you are Wicked Regal.
While it is sad that something tragic happened to Marian in OUAT (maybe got turned into a fox? then hunted by the Huntsman? how dark do they want to go!) I could see a very Shakespearean Taming of the Shrew-esque dynamic between these two sassy, snarky characters. I’d love to see Lana flex her comic timing, and have her bring out the underlying sweeter side of Regina. A modern adaptation of that Shakespeare play that I love is “10 things I Hate about You” and I feel like Regina could be in that “Who is this guy, and why doesn’t he hate me the way everyone else does?” suspicion/awkward phase. We saw little hints of this side of her when she was genuinely opening up to little Owen before it all went tragic. I do feel she needs to do some work on her dark heart, but I do believe like the poster says her love for her son will be stronger, and her heart will emerge from NL much less dark than when it went in, and hopefully, less lonely!

A major thing that I think this ship has going for it is that now we’ve seen that Robin’s mind wasn’t altered by Regina casting the Curse. We’ve been there and done that with Regina having a relationship with a guy whose mind she had assumed control over, and that relationship wasn’t genuine or healthy. But Robin’s never been under her influence like that, and I think that’s vital for anyone she’s gonna be able to have a genuine relationship with.
It bugged me a bit when they had Robin saying that he owed Rumple for having spared his life, as opposed to Belle, but I think it might have been a little device they’re using to set him up as someone who is open minded enough to not hold someone’s bad actions against them for forever. Perhaps Robin was referring to how Rumple didn’t just straight up kill him when he caught him stealing? But even if so, the guy was still tied up and tortured a bit, yet he doesn’t seem to hold a lifelong grudge about it, instead he can see the positive side that at least he didn’t get killed. Having that in his character would make him a great match for Regina, who needs to learn a little something about not holding lifelong grudges. At some point she’s gonna have to let go of the vendetta against Snow if she ever wants to be truly happy, and Robin could show her that it’s possible. And that comes back to Daniel’s final words to her to love again. He wanted her to let go of the intense hate and sadness, and move on, and let love in again. And now here’s Robin to help her honour Daniel’s final wish for her.
I’m not an EvilRegal, but the potential for this ship gives me the warm fuzzies for Regina, which really says something about what a strong storyline it could be.
I’m not an Evil Regal ship, either, but I fully support Regal Hood (I like that name better). I think Regina and Robin could be good for each other. If Robin ends up being a widower I think they’ll both be coming from a place of previously loving deeply. I do imagine neither may be open to the possibility of a relationship in the beginning. I picture their relationship to begin much like Phee outlined, a sniping contentious affair. I can imagine both feeling guilty over developing real feelings for someone other than their true love. It also could start out as purely physical, bit one feelings start to intrude either or both looking to flee.
Whatever the story line, I bet it will be an interesting one. And I expect and demand many snarky comments from Rumplestiltskin

Anyone else notice that Regina was fingering her peridot ring under the tree when Tink came to ask her if she went back to find Robin? I’d keep an eye on that, after all David’s mother’s ring proved to be a true love dousing rod.

Interesting storyteller! I didn’t catch that but it reminds me of Snow twisting hers around when she was MM and thinking about David.
Only in Regina’s case, she hasn’t met the guy in question yet, just the idea that he might be out there somewhere and wondering what may have happened to him and what her life may have been like or could be in the future (if she hasn’t let herself lose all hope yet).
Definitely looking forward to these two meeting! Never thought I’d be this excited over a Regina ship but I’m sure it will be amazing. Also want more Robin backstory (and more of adorable little Roland) so this should be good.
LOVE all the edited pics I’ve seen showing them as a happy family and can’t wait til they won’t have be manipulated but are real pics!

Hopefully because of what Snow experienced in the curse and since, she can better understand Regina’s sorrow and pain. Snow finally learned what it is to be separated from true love, she learned she has a dark side that must be fought against constantly and hopefully most of all I hope she’s has learned that change is never easy (and for that matter anything worth having and/or fighting for) and that Regina is not so much black and white as a she is gray with a shadow looming over her constantly (that at its worst eclipses her). I’ll make a bet that for Snow to heal her wounded heart and earn Regina’s open forgiveness for her part in Daniel’s death and Cora’s murder, she should put her energies toward getting Regina and Robin together so that everyone can finally be a family.
