I was looking through Once gift sets on tumblr and came across this gif, after Regina rescues little Snow in The Stable Boy. Snow says that she’ll never ride again and Regina says:

I feel if Regina had been more confident and so not scared of Cora, she could have prevented her from killing Daniel. Instead of facing Cora, Regina chose to run away with Daniel.

Perhaps all-powerful maternal homicidal maniacs fall into a special category that should always be feared?? 😕

Yeah, but why didn’t Daniel and Regina make a deal with Cora: you use your magic or influence to give Daniel some royal position and then let us marry. Everybody wins.

Because the royal position would have to come from somewhere. Regina’s family isn’t royalty. Cora was the daughter of a miller and, unless stated, Henry isn’t royalty. I don’t even think Regina’s family is of noble blood, again unless stated otherwise for Henry. Wealthy – yes, but royal or noble – no. She’s not like the Genie who made Aladdin a prince and gave him riches, an entourage, and apparently a kingdom. (At least, in the Disney version.) Even Rumple didn’t make Cinderella a princess, he just prettied her up. So, yeah, Daniel was a stable boy, whereas Leopold was king.
