The Charmings started the season 2 regression when they accused Regina of Archie’s murder. Emma initially believed Regina, until she saw the “evidence” whilst Snowing automatically accused her. However, what really set Regina off was when it looked like Henry would be taken away from her.

Hmmm. But history played a role in that. If we’re looking at causality, then :
Snowing accuse Regina BECAUSE in the past Regina has killed without remorse or regret and tried to kill Snowing many times BECAUSE Snow told a secret to Cora at a young age and Daniel died as a result BECAUSE Cora was power hungry and wanted to control her daughter BECAUSE Cora had no heart BECAUSE she ripped it out to stop loving Rumple (and so on and so forth)
And even after the Charmings accused her, Regina just went into hiding, not a murderous rampage. She didn’t actually start the regression until Cora came back into her life. She even tried to resist Cora for a the first half of that episode. So I don’t know that her regression in S2 started with the Charmings. It really began when Regina CHOSE to listen to her mother.
