Somehow I thought after the season 2 finale, that she would ease back on using magic to get her way. She used magic to turn the mermaid into wood, that didn’t solver matters. She tried to steal the map away from Emma and use a tracking spell to find Henry. I realize magic is her only weapon in fighting to get Henry back, but it does feel like she’s relying on it too much this season.
And in most cases, using magic is a short cut to get what she wants or a quick solution.

However, whereas Rumple has admitted he has a problem to Belle, Regina doesn’t think she has a problem. She blames everyone else for everything that goes wrong for her and she stopped using magic just to prove she could because she wanted to “win” Henry back. Regina herself has said that magic is how she always got everything she wanted so now that Henry is at stake, Regina wants to use magic to get him back safe.
All magic comes with a price!

She should’ve just let Emma figure out the key to the map from the start.

I agree that Regina is too reliant on magic. I think she is actually addicted to it. You’d think she would’ve learned that magic always comes with a price after the a) inadvertently poisoned Henry and b) nearly got herself and everyone in SB killed by planning to activate the fail-safe. Yet, she keeps making the same mistakes over and over. Emma had to clean up Regina’s mess in both instances. In 3×2, Regina insisted on using a locater spell on the map to lead her Henry, and instead it just lead her into PP’s trap.
Also, we’re supposed to see Regina teaching Emma some magic in S3. I just hope that Emma doesn’t fall into the same nasty cycle that Regina is currently in. (I doubt Emma actually could do black magic, even if she wanted to though, since Emma is the embodiment of true love, which breaks any curse). Also, I’m getting tired of seeing Regina and Rumple continuously falling victim to the allure of magic. I want to see real character growth for them in S3.

October 11, 2013 at 4:31 pm #215219RumplesGirlKeymasterI think right now Regina doesn’t care about her addiction to magic. She’s more concerned with getting Henry back–and if that means she has to turn some mermaids into wood and throw a few fire balls then so be it. But I think one of her big arcs this season is 1) learning that she can’t always get what she wants and 2) not resorting to magic when other things don’t work.

Hopefully. I was really disappointed last year when she turned to Cora so easily after trying to be good for Henry.

My headcanon says that RH will play a big part in getting her to back down from magic.
PS: you got a new face! i like it 🙂

My intuition tells me the same thing. I think RH will know better than anybody the heavy cost of magic, since I think the price he paid for using the fairy wand might’ve been losing Marian. Also, as far as Regina getting what she wants, I think she may discover that what she thought she wanted (revenge/power/magic) and what she actually needs (love) are two different things. We saw this hinted at in the sneak peek from 3×3 when Tink tells Regina that what she needs isn’t power but love. That could be where Robin Hood comes into play since I think Tink will use her pixie dust in modern-day NL to lead Regina to RH. The question is whether Regina can accept romantic love for a second time or not.

I agree.

So, she’s going to have go cold turkey for awhile in looking for Henry.
