Alice’s father sending Alice to a mental instition and her eventual agreement to undergo a procedure to help remove her Wonderland memories reminds me of what happened to Dorothy in the Disney film, “Return to OZ.

Dorothy can’t sleep, is melancholy, and keeps thinking & talking about OZ.  Aunt Em is concerned about her and takes Dorothy to see Dr Worley at a mental hospital.  He wants to perform an electroshock therapy treatment to help rid Dorothy of her OZ memories.  The machine looks like a smiling face with its tongue sticking out which creeped me out when I was a kid.  The treatment can go badly and cause patients to go completly insane which are then hidden in the basement.  Dorothy has to stay in the institution to undergo the treatment, she’s locked in a room and her Aunt Em leaves her there.  When Dorothy is about to have the treatment, a huge thunderstorm happened, causing a blackout.  She is then rescued by a mysterious girl she met earlier, who later dissappeears.   They end up escaping the hospital, gets caught up in a flood and Dorothy wakes up in a now “messed-up” OZ.  A place where now looks completely different then when she had left it.
