Can there be a successor “Dark one”, or is that not a thing anymore? If there is one, will it be in modern America or in Enchanted Forest?
My current theory is that the DO curse was broken last night when both the current dark one and the one who would have received the powers “died”. I think the bright golden light that was coming from the stabbing was the Curse shattering and taking Rumple (and maybe Malcolm) someplace else.

That would be suicide for the show and it’s supposed to be about happy endings – him saying “villains don’t get happy endings” should be a clue/foreshadowing that he’s not really dead, because this show is about proving the exact opposite of that. And how can there be a happy ending for Belle if her true love is dead?
and this is why I agree that there could be a way for Belle to rescue him from whatever fate he’s in (assuming he isn’t dead) because HE IS NOT A VILLIAN
Once someone forsakes their own life in order to save the lives of others, I’d say it’s safe to officially de-classify them as a villain from here on in. So if he’s no longer really a villain, then even if it were true that villains don’t get happy endings, it wouldn’t apply to him.

His final words to his papa (“I’m a villain. And villain’s don’t get happy endings”) tore me apart. He’s so much more than that. He is infinatley complex. He’s damaged and broken and has done horrible things in the names of power and love and fatherhood. He gets his happy freaking ending. (still not okay)

Fairies can survive if their shadows are returned. Rumple is something supernatural…and his shadow was gone when he killed Pan. Pan’s shadow was destroyed, so Pan could actually die–but remember, he said that Rumple could reverse it even as it was happening, so…
Anyway, they…they wouldn’t spend half an ep hammering in the Hope and then destroy everything without some glimmer of hope, would they?
Poor Belle. Poor Neal.

But also Rumple was his father’s boy to the very last. Could it be said that he was the boy who caused his own undoing?
Oh wow. that’s deep. Even after all the pain and turmoil, his last act was kissing his father goodbye. Rumple could have cut off his own hand and magicked his father inside the box or something else. but he chose the path that would end not only PP but himself. He sorta was his own undoing.

I have faith that Rumple will live. Where/how/in what form are a different set of questions. My own thinking is that Rumple’s “undoing” is not his final death, but rather, the undoing of his dark one cure. The next time we see Rumple, he’ll be a normal man again.
Also, I get the “the boy will be your undoing” was established in the prophesy, and the boy was Peter Pan, not Henry. Yet, WHY is that the case? How does Rumple stabbing his father with his dagger mean his undoing? Is it blood magic?

I don’t think he is dead, especially with the article that Robert and Emilie did for TV Guide a few days ago.
Robert said this about Rumbelle:”They’re not married. Season 4 maybe.”
Why would he joke about season 4 if he was leaving the show.

Of course it would be a good ending for his character but it looked more liked he would be teleported into another realm.
Probably the same where the wraith took Philip’s soul. I mean it could be a land of lost souls and based on that they put a lot of Greek Mythology into the show I would theorize it might be Hades, the Greek underworld.
But just the first thing witch came into my mind.“There were thousands and thousands of forms of joy in the world, but that all were essentially one and the same, namely, the joy of being able to love.”
