He didn’t after Robert left Rumple threw the hair on the ground and said something like small items can mean big things in that sarcastic tone of voice. He was just putting on a show because he saw himself in Robert. It was one of the best Rumple moments in a very long time. I miss that aspect of Rumple where he does not want anyone to see his vulnerable side but yet the audience gets to see that under the beast their is a grieving father.
I’m curious about what exactly he had said during that scene. It sounded like he was saying that someday he will be lucky enough to be reunited with his sons (plural)…but I wasn’t 100% sure because I would think he’d be talking about only one son. I didn’t have captions on, so I couldn’t confirm one way or the other. I know they like to throw hints and shocks in at moments like that, so it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for him to have said sons.
He said “One day, maybe we will all be reunited with our sons.” He just means plural in reference to James and Baelfire.

Rumpel’s actions in that scene also suggest that Robert did not really have true love in his life — not true romantic love with Ruth, nor true parental love for the boys — otherwise Rumpel should have kept the hair for a backup of the true love hair spell.
Maybe a person has to be oblivious to personal guilt, like Charming and Snow, in order for his or her love to be pure.

I’m pretty sure Robert and Ruth did have true love. Ruth gave her emerald ring to David to give to his future wife. In episode 1×6, Ruth said, “True love follows this ring wherever it goes, my son. I had it with your father, I’ve had it as your mother, now you will have it. Take it.”

He didn’t just need any random true love baby, he need hairs from Snow and Charming specifically. Rumpel has visions. There is no grand plan with him. He sees the future and is making it happen.

Giving us this scene makes me feel like the show may try to wrap up his character in a positive way rather than a negative power hungry way. I still wonder if he will go on living as the DO or if he will be killed and it gets passed on. The show already missed the opportunity to get rid of the darkness for good.

There’s still that idea that someone can use the darkness for light. And if it’s going to be Rumple, then bring him full circle and have him do it for his son.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 16, 2017 at 10:23 pm #334470Jiminy’s JournalParticipantI think he may have used it for the locator spell (like when he found out Bae was in NY), but, other than that, he didn’t need it. The scene was mainly about Goldfire parallels.
