So, in the chat, Matt posed an excellent theory. Could Roland have been wearing Bae’s old clothes which Rumple kept in the Dark Castle?

Roland is adorable! He reminds me of a little hobbit from LOTR. 🙂

Oh god. It hurts. Yeah for sure Bae’s old clothes that we know were in Rumple’s castle.

If those were Bae’s old clothes, I hope there’s a cut scene (that they stick on the DVD) of Neal recognising them, and Robin saying they found them in the castle, and Neal having a moment because his Papa kept his old stuff.

Agree agree agree! Seriously he is beyond adorable. It would make total sense that he was wearing Bae’s old clothes since it was already said they were located upstairs, and he absolutely looks like a little hobbit! SO CUTE!

Still haven’t figured out the connection with his name yet but he is beyond adorable and one of my new faves.

Love the pic you used slurpeez! I hadn’t seen that one before! So cute!

Just remembered: we learned about Bae’s old clothing in Skin Deep, written by Jane Espenson who also wrote 303.

I *think* it might be a reference to “Song of Roland” French ballad. Hero is a romantic figure a la British Robin, though their stories are very different.

I forgot about that tale, is that the one with the horn to summon help but blowing it sort of destroys your ears….eep!  It has been forever since I read that.

I think you are right. The song is also the basis of the “novel” Orlando Furioso. A side story there tells of the Chinese princess Angelica coming to the court of emperor Charlemagne where many knights fall in love with her.  Paladin Orlando (Roland) looses his mind over his unrequited love and only a trip to the moon where his mind is within a bottle saves him.

The name Roland itself comes from Old High German and means mighty, courageous and glorious. So perhaps there will be some great deeds in the future of Robin’s son. He already proved his courage when he summoned the shadow after all.

Awww Roland is cute. I kind of hope he’s not wearing Bae’s old stuff though. Rumple kept Bae’s clothes as a keepsake reminder of his lost son, so for Robin just to go rifling through them and stick them on his son kind of doesn’t sit right. Those clothes held sentimental value to Rumple, they mean nothing to Robin. It would almost be like someone who was neither Rumple or Belle wanting to throw away the chipped cup because it was broken. To RumBelle, it holds a lot of sentimental value, to everyone else, it’s worthless.

Also Rumple may have kept Bae’s clothes from when he was a teenager because that was the time he lost him. Why would Rumple keep Bae’s clothes from when Bae was a toddler, Bae would never wear them again. Those clothes would have likely been used for something else.

@Punk_Bunny_87 no, but a good question.
