I found out that she was going to be playing a young Cora in this episode and I even saw photos, one of her with baby Regina. I hate that I was spoiled on those points! Especially because I thought she looked really terrible in the photos and she’s a beautiful lady! Fortunately she was much more attractive in this episode and she did a really great job playing Cora! The last scene where she broke up with Rumple made me shiver because it really FELT like I was watching Barbara Hershey in that scene.
What did you guys think of her? Just wanted to put my appreciation out there.
[adrotate group="5"]March 11, 2013 at 2:01 pm #178969RumplesGirlKeymasterI thought she was the perfect choice to play young Cora: she’s cocky and self-sure and a little rock and roll, which matches with Dark One Rumple’s rocker attitude. She can do “cold” really well. I didn’t feel sorry for Young Cora at all, which I suspect may have been the point. That red dress she was wearing was HOT. I think she did a great job of channeling Barbara Hershey though I read that she tried to make it her own since this was young Cora.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 11, 2013 at 2:08 pm #178970malchoreParticipantI’m a guy so I have to be careful what I say about Rose McGowan least I be banned from this forum. But uh, yea, I really liked her…in this episode. A lot!
March 11, 2013 at 3:52 pm #179021MyrilParticipant😆 malchore. As long as you don’t reduce her to be a body, reduce her to her looks think we’re fine 😉 Be assured, I like looking at her a lot, and I’m not a guy.
RumplesGirl – you described it quite well. Not just cold though, but a mix of cold and still vulnerable. Not to mention she really can pull it of to be seductive while at the same time being seduced. No, didn’t feel sorry for her either, but could see her point of view. Rose McGowan said in an interview, that she thinks, that Cora was at first not so much power-mad but mad at her lack of power. And that is what she showed.
I was excited to see her in the role, expecting something good, and was not disappointed. Rose McGowan did great, love her scenes. Hope very much to see her again in this role.
¯\_(?????? ?)_/¯

Yes, she did a good job. Baylee Madison openly copies Gennifer’s performance of Snow and it’s amazing. McGowan didn’t do that but she still made it seem like she was actually a younger version of Cora. It compliments Hershey’s performance, rather than mirroring it.

I haven’t been struck by a female character’s beauty on this show like that since the first times I saw Red and Regina. I like dark hair, so I think there’s a bias there 😆
She made Young Cora seem larger than life somehow in every scene. She just looked liked a powerful woman not to be messed with. Rose McGowan was a great choice for a role like that. She’s the same woman who was kicking butt in Planet Terror 😎
March 11, 2013 at 11:13 pm #179198MysteryKat25ParticipantAlways been a fan of Rose, she was great in Charmed and was definitely channeling some of that into a more wicked version of Paige but as soon as I heard she was going to be playing young Cora I knew she’d be perfect for it. The casting department is amazing!

March 12, 2013 at 12:24 am #179215JosephineParticipantI’m definitely envious of that red dress. Wow…just wow. She did a great job as young Cora. But that red dress was definitely something else. I want to kidnap the costume designers so they can create all of my wardrobe. I wonder how my preschoolers would react to me showing up to work in a ball gown. 😆 They’d probably love it.
Back to Cora. I hate to see Rumple connect with someone other than Belle, being a devout Rumbeller, but boy did they sizzle together on screen. But then Robert does the same ith Lana…or any female he’s on set with. 😀

Even my 11 year old son was commenting on what a good job Rose McGowan did playing young Cora – that’s not something he usually comments on (except with Baylee Madison) and I don’t think it was the cleavage 😕 .
She did a fantastic job. I thought she did a great job of portraying enough of what Barbara Hershey would have been like at that age without trying to “act” like Barbara Hershey (if that makes sense). I also thought she and RC had the PERFECT blend of dark chemistry (or lack of chemistry??) or maybe lustful chemistry??? I don’t know what exactly to call what it was that they had 😯 . But, um, they did it and did it well. It wasn’t the same chemistry like Belle and Rumple – it was creepy, morbid, oh-my-gosh-this-is-so-uncomfortable-I-can-hardly-watch-it-without-making-a-weird-face-chemistry.
Under normal circumstances I would happily volunteer to play the part of one of Rumple’s long lost loves. Especially after reading through the script and realizing that a good part of his facial make up will be rubbed away during the “nuzzling” scenes. However after watching the spinning wheel seduction scene, I can safely say that I have found the one scene that is even too sick and twisted for me. Ripping someone’s throat out and stomping on their veins isn’t my idea of whispered sweet nothing’s in my ear 🙁 . Kudos to Rose McGowan for pulling off sinister and psychotic while looking as beautiful as always!!!

Cora and Rumpel were basically the goth, emo couple, which makes ripping someone’s throat out the perfect things to tell your partner LOL. Seriously, the goth kids from South Park would have loved those two LOL
I think it’s very interesting how people compare and contrast Rose’s performance as Cora to that other girl’s portrayal of young Snow. It’s two completely different acting styles. That little kid basically tries to copy Snow perfectly, which seems kind of method. Rose on the other hand, just puts her own spin on things and gave us “her” Cora.
