Even though I was hoping there would be some connection to the real Belle (and we may yet still find out that there is), I loved their interaction! I’m so glad she isn’t a trick by Pan! It seems one of my theories about her appearance was spot on- that his imagination brought a vision of her to life.
I loved their banter too! This version of Belle is very quick witted and likes to tease. She didn’t even flinch when Rumple grabbed her by the face thinking she was created by Pan.
It was also really nice to see Rumple truly conflicted that he would make a selfish decision again…he *wants* to do right by Henry…he really does…and that just made my heart swell.

I agree that she appeared especially quick-witted (as Rumple clearly is) and brave (as Rumple wishes he could be). He obviously sees Belle as his light, and his moral-center. I think he could be adding onto Belle’s many fine qualities, because love often causes us to see the best in the other person. Belle may have her flaws, of course, but Rumple sees her as his angle, just as Belle certainly chooses to see the good in Rumple (however dark his curse can make him be). True love really seems to transcend realms, too. It doesn’t matter if Belle is physically present with Rumple since she is evidentially present in spirit with Rumple. He carries her in his heart.

I’ll be over here in this corner crying.

I wonder if Rumple appeared to Belle in Storybrooke? 😥

Regarding Belle, I think she is purely a manifestation of Rumple’s feelings and thoughts, powered by his imagination, which seems to run a bit wild when he’s not reigning it in. This mirage has appeared to him when he needed it most, to provide him with encouragement, but she doesn’t know anything he doesn’t know (the barrier is fine, why shouldn’t it be- this Belle is here to provide you with peace of mind), which is the interesting bit.
You see, Rumple knows exactly what Belle thinks of him, even if he doesn’t understand why and claims not to believe it himself. But the Belle he manifested still came from within him, so perhaps that means that deep, deep down- there is a part of him that thinks she could be right.
Just as I think Peter has been toying with Emma to make her believe the worst of herself is the truest of herself, I think he is doing the same thing with Rumple. It’s sort of a layered thing. With Emma I think she’ll travel the following path:
Okay, fine, I’m the Savior. I admitted it! (She admits this reservedly, but it’s not big news.) >>>
I’m an orphan! The pain! (She’s vulnerable and Pan has her where he wants her)>>>
No… wait… forget that. I am strong, I have a family- I am a kick-butt warrior Princess! (She comes around and realizes her personal strength due to those supporting her.)Likewise, I think Rumple will follow a similar path.
I’m the Dark One (He tried to deny this part of himself for the good of others, but had to take up the mantle again)
I’m a coward (Not a pleasant thing to admit, but this is hardly breaking news and those who know him already know this)
I’m a coward because I’m afraid of being alone/rejected (Probably stemming from the parental abandonment- which Peter is trying to drudge up via the doll- this is Rumple at his weakest)
Someone, somewhere believes I am good and worthwhile (Belle provides him with strength, but more importantly – because he was able to conjure up a version of her that believes in him, he realizes that some part of him believes in himself as well, and we have a “you had the power all along” moment. Also… family?)So I guess I’m saying, this Belle isn’t the heroine this Rumple deserves, but she’s the heroine he needs?

Ever since those set photos that showed Emilie dressed like she was in the finale, and even down on the docks still, I’ve had it in my head that that’s a device they’re gonna use to show how time passes differently in each land, so even if Rumple’s been in NL for a couple of days now, perhaps only a fraction of a second has passed for Belle. On the one hand, I’d love it if she was doing something on her end as well, because it’d heighten the romance of it all, with them reaching out to each other across time and space. On the other hand, I think it still speaks to the strength of their love and their bond if she’s had enough of an impact on him previously that he’s able to draw on that of his own accord when he’s off on this solitary journey.

Love this!
October 8, 2013 at 9:08 am #214689RumplesGirlKeymasterThe Belle that manifested is an interesting combo of various Belle’s we/Rumple know. Jo and I were discussing this the other night but:
1) she’s dressed in classic Belle blue outfit. This recalls the time they spent together in FTL when he fell in love with her.
2) Her hair is more Lacey-ish than Belle. Obviously he understands that Lacey and Belle are now one person, they are both.
3) Her temperament was actually bit more like Disney’s Belle–quick witted and a little saucy. I also suspect this is what flirty Belle was like after he gave her the library in FTL.
Belle provides him with strength, but more importantly – because he was able to conjure up a version of her that believes in him, he realizes that some part of him believes in himself as well, and we have a “you had the power all along” moment. <3 perfect.

It could be interesting. Regina talking to Cora, maybe Emma talking to Neal. I think this pretty much opens up all kinds of interesting conversations that might help the rest of the cast heal.

I agree. All of those things would be very interesting.

It would be interesting to see that happen with SwanFire.
As for GoldenHearts, I don’t know. Belle’s purpose there is to keep Rumple from making the selfish and easy choice: letting Peter have the boy. The Cora Rumple knew, the one who thought power was the important thing someone could posses and who ripped out her own heart, would probably let Henry die and would encourage Rumple to let it happen so that he is not “undone.” Belle is Rumple’s moral center but Cora represents the Dark One’s equal.
(side note: no sign of Barbara or Rose on set)
