I honestly believe that Cora and Rumple were in love but there are different kinds of love and it also depends on someone’s current emotional state.
Yes, I totally agree and will add, the Rumple who fell in love with Cora is not Skin Deep Rumple.
I think he fell in love with both Belle and Cora because they were different than the people he usually made deals with. Belle and Cora were strong women who wanted to be independent and didn’t like to be held back by anyone and that attracted him. Belle fell in love with him because she saw that there was a good man behind the mask of the DO.
This reminds me something Jane Espenson said from The Miller’s Daughter DVD Commentary:
“now i get a lot of people who say, “well if he really loved cora then that means his love for belle means nothing! it’s nothing! if he’s loved anyone in his whole life, he could never truly have one true love with belle.” i just feel like we – people love a lot of people in a lifetime. they love them all differently, and clearly there was something very, very special about his love with belle because that kiss transformed him and this one did not. but that doesn’t mean he didn’t love cora. it’s just… it’s… it’s… call it less than… certainly it was different than, but he – i absolutely believe he was able to love both those women, and milah – his wife originally.”

Cora wouldn’t have ripped her heart, HE would be that father…! and if he would stop Cora killing Daniel, so that Daniel would be the heart o the thing she loves most… well… wait, why would she even need to cast a curse in the first place…?February 8, 2014 at 8:29 am #243776TheWatcherParticipantI wonder how much of the future Rumpels did actually see? he knew Cora’s daughter was important, but did he know that she would have to kill her father in order to cast the curse? if

I think he foresaw that Cora would have a daughter who would be required to cast his curse. How could he have known the person she would need to sacrifice, or the person she would love most would be her own father… As far as he knew or assumed, by the time of the curse, she would have had someone else to love (I mean, Cora wouldn’t have killed Daniel if she had a heart, so maybe he and Regina would have still been together? And she would hate snow for a different reason or want to cast the curse for a different reason and she would have had to sacrifice Daniel) anyway, I think the basics of it all were Cora’s child needs to cast the curse. Plus, the seer said things would happen regardless of his knowledge of the details or not. So if it is foretold Regina would cast the curse, it doesn’t matter who her father is or WHY she does it. She will cast the curse. Perhaps you can’t fight fate >>

I respect that *alone on my little ship*”
You are not alone on your ship. I completely agree with everything you’ve said. I loved them together in a way that I never did about Rumple and Belle. Of course there was no way for both Cora and Rumple to have lived in the episode, so I don’t know if the love triangle could have ever happened.

I also like that Cora unlike Lacey didn’t just want Rumple to spin gold. she wanted to know how to do it herself. Lacey wanted Rumple to give her things. I also don’t think rumple truly respects Belle. He sees and knows that she is good but I don’t think he truly respects her. She is more of a trophy or cheerleader but he’s the head honcho. He lies to her and keeps her isolated. I really don’t like Rumbelle. It is very dysfunctional. Actually all of Rumple’s relationships are. I don’t think Belle would have loved pre-dark coward Rumple.

I disagree 100%. Rumple does respect Belle hence him telling her everything even though he thought they were broken up. Rumple has lived a very long time and not spilling his secrets has been a habit and up until Belle, one that did him a great deal of favours. We’ve seen what happens when you tell secrets to someone, it gets people killed. Rumple kept the location of his dagger a secret and Cora couldn’t find it. The moment he revealed its location and told that secret, Cora managed to get her hands on it.
Belle is not just a pretty trinket on Rumple’s arm, she has her own identity and morals and values, and Rumple respects that! When Rumple does something wrong, Belle calls him on it, when Rumple does something with the best of intentions, even if the results aren’t all happy, Belle recognises that and most of all, Rumple listens to her!
Rumple doesn’t lie to Belle, but he does sometimes have difficulties with being completely open with her. Rumple has severe abandonment issues, everyone he has ever loved has left him and he fears Belle will too eventually even though she won’t. Rumple doesn’t want to leave himself vulnerable and being completely honest and open with someone does leave you vulnerable. However Rumple is beginning to overcome his fears and was even thinking about his future with Belle. That is a big step for Rumple has he has now acknowledged that Belle won’t leave him.
