Rumpel and Companions

Does anyone else think Rumpel, being as long-lived as he is, made a habit of keeping a lady with him? Not for relationship’s sake, of course, but just for general companionship. It’d be awfully lonely living in total isolation for hundreds of years. I think this may be the case. And there’s a couple hints that he either had someone around as caretaker of his place or as an apprentice to his magic. Belle being the former and Regina being the latter.

Rumpel certainly didn’t expect to fall in love with Belle, but he did seem pretty confident that he could make a deal to have a groundskeeper. Much like he exudes the same confidence when making a deal for someone’s firstborn. Like it’s happened before, so he knows how it goes. As for Regina, there’s nothing revealed verbally that she was Rumpel’s apprentice, but she did walk past the magic hat belonging to Yen Sid from ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ and she did make that snide comment that it was time Rumpel should get another girl after referring to the dustiness of the place. I’m thinking Regina was his apprentice as I’m sure she wouldn’t have been able to walk up to Mother Cora and ask to be taught.

Does anyone else think that Rumpel has done this more than a few times? If so, what other characters do you think would fit into this scenario. Just as a hypothetical, of course. Heaven forbid things are made more complicated and the show becomes something akin to Rumpel’s Angels. 😉 If anything, I’d like to see the Siren have a connection to Rumpel seeing as how Triton’s trident was seen in Rumpel’s place and Regina did mention a certain mermaid.

I don’t think Rumpel had any companions before Belle which was why he wanted her in the first place because he was lonely. Belle pretty much called him out on it during the episode and Rumpel didn’t deny it.

Regina told him he should find a new girl because she knew how much Belle meant to him and she was just rubbing salt into his wound. The fact that Rumpel wasn’t interested in doing a deal told Regina that Rumpel was out of sorts and she just put two and two together.

It is possible that Rumpel kept a girl to clean up after him. We know there was the mute maid and we know there was Belle. Regina mentioned other names, but she may have just been doing that to seem careless and not because those were actually other girls that had lived there. Who knows. They could go either way.

I am not sure if i believe that Regina was Rumpel’s apprentice. Regina may have done a deal with Rumpel to get her magic. Especially if we are going to learn how Cora got magic and if that magic is then passed to Regina which i think is likely. I have always liked the idea that Regina may have learned some of her magic from Maleficent. Though really it doesn’t seem like magic is learned in fairytale land so much as you just do it and it happens. Though then there does seem to be the part about making curses that is more complicated. I guess it is a little bit of both.
