I was so happy to see some of the the backstory between Rumpel and Regina. I think Regina is the baby who got away in the original Rumpel fairy-tale. Cora is the miller’s daughter, as Daniel said in 1×18, which makes Regina the first-born child that would’ve gone to Rumpel. So, Rumpel’s revenge on Cora was to send her to Wonderland at the hands of Regina and make Regina his magical apprentice. Very interesting.

Also, I was really intrigued to discover that the “please” clause is now null and void since the curse was broken. That evens the playing fields a bit, except that Regina and Rumpel agreed not to interfere with each other.

Am I the only one who found him very very creepy in this episode? All his talk about “now we’re together” and “I held you in my arms”. I was really disturbed.

Heh, he was pretty creepy here. I like your theory slurpeez, certainly makes a lot of sense, fits with the theme of slightly altering existing fairy tales to fit into a larger mythology.

I couldn’t help but think that Rumpel had paternal feeling for Regina, like he was her dad. I’m not saying he’s her biological dad, per se, but like her adopted father.

I tweeted Jane Espenson (a writer on Once) and asked her if Rumpel was Regina’s dad (my initial thought) and she said we will find out either way soon 🙂

If Rumple turns out to be Regina’s dad…. I would be really creeped out. Plus it would mean Baelfire was her brother. And if Baelfire is Henry’s dad, then that would make her his aunt. And if Baelfire and Emma are going to end up together, Regina would be her sister-in-law, plus her step-grandmother. Wait, I just realized that Henry is Emma’s step-uncle…. This is very complicated…..

    This is very complicated…..

Poor Henry, he wouldn’t have a family tree, he’d have a family tumbleweed!

Was I the only one who noticed that Rumple wasn’t as sparkly this epp as he usually is. It was like only the bottom half of his face had makeup on or something and yet in skin deep he was fully shinny. Maybe the more magic he does the more it changes him, and the closer he got towards the curse being enacted, the more he had to do magic to put things in place?

On anther note, I’m glad we are seeing Regina learning that magic cant keep Henry close. It’s a nice folio to Gold. I mean Bae jumped worlds to get away from magic and what it was doing to Rumple and now Rumple brings Magic here. For an intelligent man, i don’t think Rumple really thought this one out…

Ya I am hoping Regina doesn’t turn out like her mother. She definitely realized in this episode that that was the path she was on and she didn’t want Henry to end up like her. So she proved she loved him by letting him go.

I think it would be cool that, once Henry and Regina begin to patch things up, that he learns a bit of magic. I could totally see him learn all she can teach him (and maybe Gold too, if it turns out that Bae is his dad) and be one of the only characters on the show–besides the fairies–who use magic for good and doesn’t let it corrupt him.
