They introduced a goddess (Ursula) so maybe Belle will go and face a god like Hades to get her Rumple back. She’d do it, too.

Make a bet, he read a spell in there that would help him come back later. Somehow, he’s not really dead but in a Netherworld or something. Belle will find him again.

He was reading the spell on how to do the body switch. His sacrifice decision was spur of the moment (since he thought the cuff would work and all he’d have to do was behead Pan)

There is a Greek legend like this. A woman was being chased by a satyr (who were know for rape) and fell into a pit of vipers. Her husband went down to Hades to retrieve her soul back. Hades told him that hr would allow the man and his wife to climb out of Hades on one condition. He can never look back at his wife. So the man starts climbing and right before he gets out, he think Hades is trying to trick so he looks back and sure enough his wife was there but because he looked back she gets dragged back down to Hades.
Hmmm… A famous satyr is named Pan…

He could have also looked at something about how to save himself too. As a backup. It’s Rumple. He’s very clever at finding way to survive.

And given that B and the B is based on Persephone and Hades, I could see them doing some sort of mashed potato for Rumple and Belle.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"I change my mind daily as to where I think Rumple is. In my head I keep hearing Rumple say “Why, I’m exactly where I want to be”. So, all that time on Neverland, I think a wise old soul like Rumple had to have kept a bit of Squid ink or pixie dust for a rainy day. It was rainy when he left our world. All those enchanted things in his shop at his disposal whether he had magic or not. Rumple always has a way out. I think he’s right back where he was before the original curse took him to Storybrook. In his dungeon cell, with his squid ink.
First Theory: I’m still hoping he landed in Oz and became the Wizard there because of his known reputation in the Fairytale Land. But he has no magic (like the Wizard in the film) and he pretends to have magic.
Second Theory: When Belle asks “Who cursed us”, maybe the Wicked Witch and Rumple created the new curse. The reason why he wanted to create a new curse is he would reunite with his family in Storybrooke again.
Third Theory: When the Wicked Witch cast the new curse, Rumple is dragged to Storybrooke again and becomes the new John Doe.
I like the first theory better than the others because of the aspect of “One Year Later” and they can show Rumple in Oz (flashbacks) while the other characters are in the Enchanted Forest.
