GAH!!! I’d love for the first episode to be Rumpel-centric. We rarely get any answers out of him and even though he’s had a few character centric episodes, he still a big mystery. But don’t mind me, I tend to get a little too excited at the prospect of more Rumpel. 😀 😀 😀
[adrotate group="5"]May 27, 2012 at 3:02 pm #147837mickeyParticipantThe first episode being Rumple-centric is as likely as it being The Charmings-centric, I think. Just because we don’t like something doesn’t mean that it doesn’t make sense from the point of view of the writers. I just hope that the first episode won’t revolve around Charming family reunions only. That would be extremely boring to me. Besides their reunion can probably be done in one scene. I don’t see the need to drag it out. And getting back the kingdom, well I know it will take place in S2, but we all know the outcome of it. So it’s not interesting enough for the first episode in my opinion. The opening episode has to be exciting enough to get viewers hooked to watch the rest of the series. I’m just not sure that family reunions or getting back the kingdom are like that.
I guess for some people the final scene will always be about Rumple’s power hunger and period. It probably stems from the fact that they don’t like the character. But from the point of view of the plot that explanation doesn’t make sense. The guy worked on the curse for centuries, then willingly got himself transported to the land without magic where he was stuck for 28 years so that after these 28 years he could get back his magic. That’s ridiculous. I thought it was obvious that he’s got some agenda ( most probabably finding his son) and he released that magic because he needs to do something with it.May 27, 2012 at 3:09 pm #147839hjbauParticipantIt is just that so far both of the Rumpel episodes could be pulled from the show, at least the fairytale world parts, and the show would still make perfect sense, so i would actually consider them both filler at least the fairytale land parts. So far his character is mostly used to help the other characters on their quests and such, so if they do a Rumpel episode for the first episode of Season 2 then it needs to be grounded in the present day conflict in fairytale land.
The episode with Belle was not at all relevant to the main plot of the show. The episode where we saw Rumpel become the dark one is a good back story episode, but not relevant to the main present day conflict because most of the characters on the show were not even alive at the time of the events of Rumpel becoming the dark one.
And honestly i think they need for the first episode to be an Emma episode. Just like the pilot was and the finale was of Season 1 just because the premise of the show is that Emma is the new fairytale character and the show is her story.
And i do not think it is fair to say that i don’t like the character and that is it. I just do not see Rumpel as enough of a main character and honestly i find his agenda boring. He wants to find Bae so do that already. I hope he can’t see the future, because if he can that makes his character even less interesting, in my opinion. I think what is interesting about the character is his manipulation of the events to get to this point and if it was not manipulation and just he saw it. I find that boring and contrived.

Mr. Gold didn’t just forget his son. He spent hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of years working on this curse. I doubt he’s just going to forget after one episode. Besides, he had one hell of a reminder in “The Return” when August tricked Mr. Gold into thinking that he was Baelfire. That probably fueled his desire to find Bae even more. So, there’s obviously a lot more to this story than meets the eye.

I want to learn more about the magic and the curse. Family reunions can be wrapped up in one or two scenes. And I think the first episode should revolve around the mythology of the show and the cliffhanger. If the first episode was about Emma and her parents having a family reunion, I’d feel cheated. 😯 I want to know more about the overall plot and the what happened in the finale. Rumpel is the one who’s been pushing it all forward. So, I feel the first episode should be about him. He’s been the only one who’s been moving the plot forward. The others are just going along for the ride. We never get any real answers with the Snow and Charming centric episodes. Nothing is truly revealed that we already know.
May 27, 2012 at 3:36 pm #147848hjbauParticipantWell i think the family part of the show and how Emma feels about Snow and Charming is going to be something that is going to be worked on throughout the entire season.
They are definitely going to do what is going on with Rumpel scenes. In my opinion though, Emma is the emotional center of the show and the character who has had the most growth in season 1 and i think that she is the main character and is going to continue to be where that thing about the show exists. Rumpel will continue doing his effecting Emma’s plot and Snow and Charming’s plot and he will continue to look for Bae.
Though maybe now that he knows that Regina did something to Belle he will actually fight against her because until now he hasn’t cared about Regina at all. So maybe the two of them will actually enter into conflict with each other.
Either way there cannot be spoilers out there that are already stating what centric the first episode is going to be. I don’t think that could be known at this point.
May 27, 2012 at 3:43 pm #147849mickeyParticipantRumple-centric episodes are fillers? What are you talking about? He is the one who designed the curse and set everything into motion. It’s because of his change into the dark one he lost his son which drove him to make this whole curse. Without him there wouldn’t be this show, there wouldn’t be the need for any struggle, there wouldn’t be Emma the saviour, Snow and Charming’s love etc. He’s been involved in the lives of all the characters in FL. The episode with Belle was important because it showed that despite the dark curse he is capable of loving someone.
You want the first episode to be about Emma, she’s your favourite character. I get that. There is nothing wrong about that. But let other people hope that the first episode will be about their favourite character instead of dashing their hopes by saying in a pretty self-righteous manner that it is highly unlikely.
My opinion that you don’t like Rumple is based on what you write about that character here. You always write negative things, even though it’s evident that he’s not a black and white character. And don’t get me wrong I don’t think it’s obligatory to like him or find his storyline interesting. It’s perfectly fine. But to express your dislike for a character in every single thread devoted to him is another pair of shoes.May 27, 2012 at 3:57 pm #147851hjbauParticipantNo. That is not fair. I think that Emma is the main character of the show. The writers have stated that. That is the only reason i think the first episode should be about her. It has nothing to do with her being my favorite character though i do think that the only reason everyone wants Rumpel to be the centric of the first episode is because it is their favorite character.
And i do think that both of the Rumpel episodes could be pulled and the show would still make sense. I think they were good character development to understanding Rumpel’s character, but in general they have had very little bearing on the show as a large. Like we don’t need to know why Rumpel became the dark one to understand that he is the dark one. And so far Belle has been an afterthought though they may actually develop her character in the future. I forgot about the third Rumpel episode where Rumpel loses Bae through the vortex. That was important to the plot of the story because it actually explained his motivation a bit and the scene where Bae was sucked away was very emotional. That was one of Ropert’s best scenes.
I do think that Rumpel is fairly black and white as a character. He just always does the evil thing, in my opinion. That is sort of it. Maybe in the future they will show something different, but as of now he let Bae go and fall through the vortex, he yelled at Belle, grabbed her threw her to the floor, and then sent her out of the castle, he killed the fairy godmother, he burned down the castle and killed the dark one to take his power and knowing did all of those things. He just does the evil thing in the situation. I think that everyone wishes he would make different choices, but when it comes down to it he does things like causes a fire to get what he wants instead of doing something else. That just is Rumpel.
And i like him in his manipulation of events to get his end which is finding Bae, i do not like it if he just SEES everything. I don’t get why people would want that for the character.
May 27, 2012 at 4:03 pm #147853Daniel J. LewisKeymasterActually, the producers have stated numerous time that Rumpel is indeed a central character. In fact, they just said that in a recent interview. They didn’t even mention Regina. I think it’s over in the spoiler section for season 2. Lana even mentioned it.
The main characters are Emma, Snow, Charming, Rumpel and Regina. You don’t get your own promotional poster if you’re not a central character. The writers give Rumpel so many character centric episodes and put him in the middle of so many of the show’s plots for a reason. You don’t see Rumpel as a central character, and yet you complain that he’s in too many of the plots. If he’s in so many of the plots then it’s obvious that he’s a central figure.
May 27, 2012 at 4:08 pm #147854hjbauParticipantAnd i am not saying that he isn’t a central character. He is clearly one of the main ensemble characters. He has gotten three episodes which is about the same for the other characters except Emma who has had five i think it is. All i said is that the two Rumpel episodes could be pulled and the show would still make sense. That is all i said. Though now that they have reintroduced Belle maybe she will become more important to the plot because so far she hasn’t really. She needs to be developed further as a character and maybe become more central to the plot in Storybrooke. We will see.
