I’m pretty sure Rumpel is a main character. Emma, Mary Margaret, David, Mr. Gold and Regina are the heart of the show. Like The Looking Glass just said, the producers have stated it several times in interviews.

Emma is the main character because the story is hers and she is in every episode. Then there is Rumpel, Snow, Charming, and Regina. Though i do think it is more as if the show is an ensemble though i do think that the writers have many times stated that the story is Emma’s story as the new fairytale character.

Ah! I understand ya. 😉

Aww, of course not. I love you guys! 😀 I love chatting with people who disagree with me. I don’t like preaching to the choir. I like debates. You tend to get a better persepctive on a character when you talk with people who you disagree with. So, I love hearing all sides.

And i do think that both of the Rumpel episodes could be pulled and the show would still make sense. I think they were good character development to understanding Rumpel’s character, but in general they have had very little bearing on the show as a large. Like we don’t need to know why Rumpel became the dark one to understand that he is the dark one.
HJBAU, I think we need to move away from pitting one character’s storylines versus another character’s storylines. The writers have repeatedly stated that OUAT is about CHARACTERS..so even the one episode we had about Red Riding Hood is important and I think could not be pulled. So even though you may not have wanted to know about how Rumple became the dark one, it is an important story to the series.
And trying to speculate about who is a “main” character or “secondary” character or “filler” character is pure literary adventure and is a kind of laboratory analysis of a show that inspires a lot of emotions for viewers. Everyone is entitled to their own “literary” opinion but this can be taken wrong in a show that can be quite emotional.
Another thing that the writers have said is how they didn’t want any character to be completely good or evil. [i.e. The Blue Fairy lied to SW/PC and Rumple killed the dark one to save his son from the Ogre wars and Emma gave up her baby to the same Foster System that tortured her (not even bothering to interview the potential foster parents)]. So, the writers are not painting any character completely black or white.
In the end, we all have our heroes..who we want to see will get a happy ending..but will just need to sit back, see where the writers take us and enjoy the ride! 😆

My opinion that you don’t like Rumple is based on what you write about that character here. You always write negative things, even though it’s evident that he’s not a black and white character. And don’t get me wrong I don’t think it’s obligatory to like him or find his storyline interesting. It’s perfectly fine. But to express your dislike for a character in every single thread devoted to him is another pair of shoes.
I agree with this..its no secret LOL. On the “who will get killed off thread” I think HJBAU’s answers were either Rumple or Belle…but, they were the 2 CRITICAL characters in the season 1 finale that set us up for the next season! I think the agenda here is clear 😆

There were no specific rumors..just a spoiler that someone majorly shocking dying and that it wouldn’t stick. So everything was pure speculation. I voted for August and Henry…and both were right to my amazement 😆 .Henry’s didn’t stick and I doubt August’s will either 😆
May 28, 2012 at 7:20 am #147917hjbauParticipantI did not say that i didn’t want to know about Rumpel’s back story.. I thought that was a reasonable addition to the story though i think that episode had some wonky plot problems and some weird acting in it. I actually think that they need to do another back story episode of Rumpel before he became the dark one around the time that Bae was born. I never said i think the episodes should be removed just that they could and the show would still make sense.
There is no reason for this to get personal. I do think they are going to kill off Belle eventually or she is going to leave Rumpel. I just can’t imagine them wandering around Storybrooke happy. That seems to not work for the plot. This is about plot for me and Rumpel needs to be an antagonist. So either Belle has to be okay with his evil ways or she has to die so he can become more evil or she has to leave him.
