I don’t see why Cora would marry Rumpelstiltskin–she thinks (thought?) very highly of herself, and if people ever found out that she had not only been married to a coward, but had left her son, it would have been bad for her. She may have terrorized her husband and daughter, but to the public, she was a genteel, kind woman and mother.
In honesty, I think there is a connection between Cora and Rumpelstiltskin, but not marriage–Cora probably made some sort of deal with him, and that was how she got to her postion. I don’t see Rumpelstiltskin giving her powers–why want competition?
As for Rumpelstiltskin’s wife, I think she willingly left him. In Desperate Souls, the soldiers mocked him for it, and Rumpelstiltskin confirmed it to Bae when the latter asked. She may appear in the series, maybe for some sort of story arc–and if she does make an appearence, it would probably be in the past, not present.
I think The_Savior and I both mean that Cora would have been married to Rumple BEFORE he became the Dark One and BEFORE she received magic from someone. So they were both commoners when they were married (however I think Cora may have wanted to better herself from the beginning) and then in an effort to better herself Cora somehow found a way to gain power and status through magic and ended up ditching Rumple and Bae. I wonder if maybe the connection to Regina is that after Rumple became the Dark One he found Cora hanging out at the palace with Regina, and Regina requested his help to get rid of mommy. He could have initially felt sorry for Regina being stuck with such a horrible mother knowing what Cora is like, but then when Regina killed Cora and she ended up becoming just like her. Regina and Rumple then ended up as frenemies in a power struggle over who has the most power.

2 things:
1)Rumplestiltskin’s wife cannot be Cora. Rumplestiltskin was married hundreds of years ago before Cora was even born.
2)Rumple’s wife cannot possibly have a storyline to appear in Storybrooke because she left Rumple before the curse happened and was not immortal. So, unless she time travels, I don’t think we’ll see her.
If the Blue Fairy and Rumple can be hundreds of years old, I don’t see any reason we can’t add Cora to the multi-century club. We don’t know when Cora received her power/magic so we don’t know how old she is. Just like we don’t know how old the Blue Fairy is.
I understand that he would have been married to Cora before they both attained power. But after Cora got her power and position, I don’t see how she would have left any loose ends. She said sacrificed a lot to get where she was at. There does not seem to be anything she wouldn’t have done to keep everything that she worked for. Also, I don’t see her being happy if he ex-husband got power, especially if it could pose as a threat to her, I don’t see her letting it slide–he might have wanted to cause trouble just to spite her, or at least that is what she would think.
Regina was already pretty twisted–Daniel’s death made her hate a ten year old girl. So i doubt killing her mother (if Regina did) would increase her hatred by much.
Cora is too old to still be having children so if Regina is aging normally which she is then Cora has to still be aging as well.
