I was just thinking…
We have seen Rumple take interest in babies many times, asking for a first born child in exchange for a deal. However, he has apparently never succeeded as we never see him actually take anyone’s baby.
I wonder what he wanted to do with Cinderella/Ashley’s baby? Raise the child as his own? I think he wants to be a father again. I wonder if somewhere down the line in the show, Belle will be pregnant. Wouldn’t that be an interesting situation to see Rumple in? (Emilie de Ravin would probably find that pretty funny considering she played a pregnant woman for much of Lost.)
Then there is the whole situation with Cora where he changed the deal so that she gives him his own child- he would have raised his own child to cast the curse? Yikes!
When it comes to Cinderella’s baby, I don’t think he actually wanted the baby. I think he wanted to be locked up in prison and this was the way to make that happen. I think he foresaw that Cinderella would trick him that’s how he would get to where he needed to be.
It probably has to do with the Curse. The seer told him that the visions will often be complicated and it’ll take time to sort out what might be and what will be.
At some point, he probably figured that a child born of True Love would be the savior but didn’t know who’s child, specifically. He probably thought at one point, that kid must be his and Cora’s but then Cora dumped him, but since most fairy tale princesses have true love too, there’s a whole lot he could possibly choose from.
He needed a few things to get the curse enacted. He someone vengeful and gutsy enough to do it, since the seer said that he wasn’t the one to make it happen (Regina), and she would have needed a very good reason to do it (she can’t kill Snow in their world), and Snow and Charming have True Love, and a child of True Love is powerful enough to break the Dark Curse (Emma).
Gold still tried to take Ashley’s baby after the curse was already in place though.
Like Gold said to Emma when she got back from fairytale land, he was exactly where he wanted to be. He needed to be in that cell so he could get Emma’s name and put that memory trigger in place.
!

But he gave up pretty fast. And I agree, he wanted that favor from Emma.
Yes, that is probably the case.
I do think he has a soft spot for children though.
Absolutely. Look at how he was with Henry before the episode Manhattan when he began to think that Henry was the boy from the prophecy. He’s always been kind to Henry because I think Henry reminded him a lot of Bae (which should come as no surprise to us now!)
*side note* This conversation really makes me want a Rumbelle baby by season 7.
