Once-Before:
I love how they flipped Belle’s story. She starts off as a princess this time, wearing the iconic yellow dress (gorgeous!) and soon is reduced to a maid and dons the familiar blue frock. Originally I was said that she started as a princess but I love princesses so hey. And Gaston got to be a prince too! Which was interesting. He was a very fine-looking prince, I must say.
Aw, and Gaston came to save her… and died. And Rumple lied and said it was the old hag from the original story selling a single rose! That was kind of cool but I was still reeling from the murder. That was terrible. Did anyone else cringe when she clipped the stem of the rose?
Okay and since Belle is still alive I guess none of that tragedy really happened. Regina kidnapped her and made all that up. She is so evil. But if the story was true I think the dad would be way more evil.
Storybrooke:
Mr. Gold has hired muscle?! (Who do you think he was? One of the ogres?) I was so surprised by that little fact. And he really stepped up his game all of the sudden. Scary.
Emma got to hang out with Henry! <33 That was great. I also really enjoyed the scene with Regina and Gold. Hehehe. They do both know. Know they know it and we know it. Awesome.
Who do you think really has the upper hand? I think Mr. Gold is still in a position to fight especially if he could ally himself with Emma (but that’s unlikely now that she’s seeing his true colors…) But Regina definitely seems to be the stronger of the two in this world. She scares the heck out of me and she’s the one who has an ace in the hole that Gold doesn’t even know about and won’t until it serves her purposes. She really is evil.
I bet Belle’s dad doesn’t even know he has a daughter. 🙁

Everyone keeps implying that GASTON was turned into the rose and his feet are cut off when she clips the rose. (here and other forums)
I thought GASTON had been turned to dust and the sword became the rose. Since the sword was inanimate it could be turned into another inanimate object. Human/ live could only be turned to ashes. … Just my theory and observation.

We also don’t know for certain if Gaston has really died. It might be he was transported to a distant location much as Hansel and Gretel were transported by the wicked queen Blacksmoke.

I think Gaston is dead. I don’t see any reason why Rumple would teleport him rather than kill him. But maybe he did spare him, like the Queen spared the kids. However, I like your theory that it was the sword that turned into the rose and not Gaston himself. Or even though it seemed like something was transformed into the rose maybe it wasn’t Gaston or his sword–maybe Rumple just conjured up the rose. Who knows, they didn’t explain.
But I do agree now that Gaston is not the rose and that’s a small relief, even if he is dead.
Thanks!

I just saw the episode not too long ago with my boyfriend. That was my favorite scene from the whole episode, though, Rumple making Gaston go ‘poof’. Except he thought that Gaston became the rose and when Belle cut it, she was cutting him down (she never liked him anyway) — which went along nicely with the Disney movie. Gaston was a big jerk there.
February 15, 2012 at 2:21 am #137281hjbauParticipantWhat was Belle doing though? She takes the rose and then walks over and opens a box on the floor. Does she take something from it like scissors or something? Then she goes to the wall cabinet and gets a vase. I just didn’t understand what she was doing at the box on the floor.
February 15, 2012 at 2:23 am #137283obisgirlParticipantI have to re-watch that scene.
February 15, 2012 at 4:39 am #137290riddleravenParticipantYeah she was getting pruning scissors from it that she had seen there. I don’t remember the box on the floor. You mean what she was doing while Rumple was at the door?
