He’s certainly not the only character with food associations…but…he’s connected food with magic several times now. And not just in the let’s-poison-apples sense.

–Ketchup is this world’s most powerful magic???
–The angry moment he summons is kissing Hordor’s boot. The happy moment to counter it? Meat pies.

Oh, and we know his favorite breakfast thanks to Pan.

    And Hamburgers. That is all.

Regina did the same thing, linking whiskey with magic last episode.

I guess bad magic = emotion. Good magic = food? Maybe if they feed Emma enough pancakes, this whole plotline can resolve itself 😀

Also, Henry seems to be quite obsessed with food. I bet he’ll make a powerful wizard yet!

    LOL Sherazade.

I don’t think it’s necessarily the food he connects with magic. The happy memory wasn’t about the meat pies, it was about the one time in his life when Rumple felt loved and not abandoned.

As for the ketchup line, Rumple was just trying to impress Belle. She’d never had hamburgers before and basically he was just saying to her ketchup will make it taste even better.

    I like this parallel.

i do not ship rumplestiltskin with meat pies.

seriously rumple meat pies? not i dont know raising the son you will spend hundred years seeking, not saving the children from the ogre wars, not even cake in neverland with your dad before he was entirely evil.

i seriously would have thought that a moment with baelfire trumped meat pies but obviously i am wrong.

    meat pies are yummy though

Magic always comes with a price, so I pay with visa.

Well Rumpel said to just think of a happy memory. He didn’t say it had to be the happiest memory you can recall. Thinking of Bae may actually make him sadder because he will have to recall that he is not with him. The meat pie thing is just a random happy moment of happy feeling in his life. It doesn’t mean its his only happy moment or happiest memory

I agree Watcher. The meat pies were a single happy moment in Rumple’s childhood where the weight of the world wasn’t bearing down on him.

I agree as well. He was giving her an example of a happy moment from his past. A fairly harmless one. I doubt he’d want to share anything too intimate with this fickle, easily excitable groupie he just met.

But why oh why meat pie??? Cinnamon-topped chocolate milk, yum. Apple turnover? Ok, I guess. Hamburgers? Sure. But I just don’t see myself serving meat pie if I ever find enough ouat fans in my neighbourhood to throw a season-finale-watching-party with ouat-themed food.

How do you even make meat pie? Is there a ouat-themed recipe page? There needs to be a ouat-recipe page!

Maybe the meat pie is just like a steak pie or a chicken pie but obviously with some EF creature.
