We know that Rumple’s father left him and was considered a coward. We also now know that the doll was given to Rumple by his father. Why does the doll follow him? Is it magic? How does the doll die into Neverland and to Pan, if at all? Can he destroy the doll?

The fact that Peter Pan had the doll likely means that Rumple was a Lost Boy on the island once. The fact that Rumple tried to throw it away yet it repeatedly returns is straight out of a horror film. I think that something big must happen before that doll can be destroyed. I’m just not sure yet how.

Does Pan control the doll? Can he control the elements of NL? Frist Rumple tried to drown it, then he tried to burn it, and still it came back!

Much like Snow and Emma, it’s a recurring message throughout the episode. As long as he thinks he’s a coward, that doll is going to keep coming back to him. Once he realizes and accepts who he truly is, who Belle sees him as and deep down Nealfire, he’ll not be able to rid himself of it.

This is brilliant. I ascribe to this.

We also now know that the doll was given to Rumple by his father.
*happy dance* 😛
Will be back to actually say something constructive after I’ve watched the ep.

Yes please do! Cause…freaky.

I agree that once he accepts who he really is he should be able to get rid of it for good. (Man was that freaky how it just kept coming back though, not letting him let go of the past).
Loved that it was from his dad (we definitely need more backstory!)
One thing I noticed though – does the jacket remind anybody of anything? It’s blue with gold trim, right? Like the one Beast usually wears? Just something I noticed. 🙂

I agree I think that is exactly the meaning of the doll. It would go exactly with what Eddy and Adam said the characters would have to face. And yeah that doll was freaking scary.

It represents his relationship with his father, and the similarities he has with his father. So in keeping that doll with him, he’s being constantly reminded of his daddy issues, his abandonment issues, and his cowardice.
Belle told him to let the past so, go he ditched the doll, hoping to free himself of the burden of the past, so he could do the right thing by Henry. But the doll came back to him, so NL(/PP?) doesn’t want him to forget his past.
So, does NL want him to have the constant reminder of his past because it will hinder his mission…or because it will help his mission? What exactly is NL hoping Rumple will succeed/fail at achieving?

Yep, someone posted side by side pics on tumblr recently and they look really similar. Love that sort of attention to little details.
