Rumple had all his darkness sucked out of him by the hat (yeah, that’s fun sentence). Does this make him human again? Can he be revived? Does this make him redeemed in your eyes? Does he still have to redeem himself?

Unpopular opinion here, but I think they should’ve just killed him off.

Should have known that Adam and Eddy would just pull a handwave, and poof…he’s redeemed!

Why not just suck the darkness out of everyone’s hearts then?????

I wonder how long they’ll keep him in what is essentially a coma. Will he be absent for most of the season off sleeping or will they reanimate him soon into the new season?

This reminds me of what happened to a character on Agents of SHIELD during the Season 1 finale.

One of the characters, Fitz, almost dies from lack of oxygen. We don’t see Fitz for the rest of the finale, and are only told that “he may not be the same again.” Season 2 revealed that the lack of oxygen damaged his brain pretty badly, and we see his recovery for a large chunk of the Season.

Now Jo, it looks like you might have gotten your wish of seeing Rumple being stripped off the Dark One curse, and will have to struggle being a mortal man yet again.

Not unpopular; I’ve been saying it all season. And I’m RumplesGirl.

I do not like the way this was done at all. It’s cheating. He has to EARN redemption, not get darkness sucked out of him. It’s unfair for the likes of Regina who had to work for redemption, and still struggles.

Exactly. It was so hand wavey.

I really think it would be interesting. He’s lived so long with all this power. I think it’s long overdue. If he lives it will be intriguing to see that struggle. If he lives he has a lot of amends to make. Lots of groveling and working to do to get to a place of forgiveness and redemption.

I think that Rumple is now just a mortal man again.  He’ll most likely be revived… TLK, perhaps?

Do I think he’s redeemed himself?  Absolutely not.  Rumple should have to work to earn it.  Admittedly, I need to rewatch the scene with his new glowy-white heart to hear what the Apprentice said about it.  What I would prefer is that this new heart be more of a blank slate rather than automatically making Rumple good in temperament.  Behavior patterns & habits don’t disappear overnight (although who am I kidding, this is OUAT), so my thinking is that Rumple will struggle with making different choices in the next season.  He’s also going to have to adjust to ‘normal’ life without magic.

I could see Rumple being brought in as a ‘consultant’ to the Charmings & Hook about how to deal with / support Emma.  Can you become the Dark One again after having already been so?  I could see how that would be incredibly tempting for Rumple to try to regain his power after having enough of a life without magic.

He has to EARN redemption, not get darkness sucked out of him.

I didn’t get the sense that this was meant as redemption, just a closing of accounts or something like that. Rumpel is no better off now than before the hat treatment. Since good hearts on OUAT are bright red, Rumpel’s white heart is just as “wrong” as it was when it was black.
