I think they are going to reduce his role and Robert will probably be a recurring. I think he is not going to be in 5A, and he will probably wake up in 5×11, which will be the 100th episode.

Thus mirroring the first scene of the pilot episode. Yeah, I think that’s a strong possibility.

I think Bobby not appearing is a strong possibility as well.

Many of us who have loved the character have been expecting him to die and have felt like it would have been the best option.
Do I think he’s redeemed himself? Absolutely not. Rumple should have to work to earn it. Admittedly, I need to rewatch the scene with his new glowy-white heart to hear what the Apprentice said about it. What I would prefer is that this new heart be more of a blank slate rather than automatically making Rumple good in temperament.
I like your blank slate idea. Wish I had faith that that’s the direction they’ll go with it. This is what the Apprentice said: “Rumplestiltskin was the Dark One for centuries. His return to the man he used to be will not be easy. This will preserve him, until we discern if we can help him.”

That last little bit makes me think that Rumple is going to be out of commission for awhile

Being a Dearie myself, do you think this will affect ratings even more? He is a huge draw to the series. Can they give him the “Belle treatment” (there but never shown) and still maintain their grasp on his fans?
I do think this may be a compromise. Bobby gets a reduced load on the show instead of getting out completely of his contract, they can use him occasionally for flashbacks and then at the end bring him out of limbo. I don’t think they’ll demote him to recurring. That’s a red flag to fans that something is up, but they might do it to Emilie.

Regina and Hook have been forgiven for less.
I think they will have Rumple out of commission for 1-3 episodes only. He’s the one who is probably the best bet to help with the Emma is the dark one situation, so of course they’re going to want him unavailable to ramp up the seriousness of the situation.
I think the sheer amount of darkness he was carrying with him is a mitigating factor and the fact that he managed to retain his humanity for centuries despite it hints that he will survived because the “strength” is there that the apprentice said would be needed if he were to survive.
I still expect Rumple to try and make some sort of amends but I think the other characters are going to be fairly forgiving.

Keeper of FelixMay 11, 2015 at 6:01 pm #304588KebParticipantThe darkness of the dark one was removed, but does that mean he’s powerless? Does that mean he’s fully human? I mean, right now he’s in a magic stasis popsicle like Zelenarian was in 4A more or less but what actually WAS left?
I’ve long headcanoned that while his chief powers came from being the DO, he was accumulating backup powers along with trinkets.

I agree. Plotwise magic Rumple is too convenient to get rid of, he’s magically solved 75% of the problems on the show.

Keeper of FelixMay 11, 2015 at 6:31 pm #304592KebParticipantWell, we know the seer’s power was something separate that he gained (and seems to have lost). But we’ve also seen what Belle is capable of doing without any inherent powers at all. Rumple could do ten times that. I’m still convinced he’s got a backup besides just his shop of things.
