I had the same thought after seeing Crocodile…they almost went overboard on the coward/lack of courage theme. I just wonder how they would weave that in.

December 27, 2012 at 2:59 am #166390clockwatcherParticipantWell, we’ve seen from “The Crocodile” that as stories spread, they can be twisted and misinterpreted. Maybe the story of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz we all know about is COMPLETELY different from what’s on the show. 😉
Rumple’s story does seem to be intertwined with other characters’ in lots of different ways; maybe he just helped Dorothy on her journey.December 27, 2012 at 6:30 am #166409PheeParticipantIf Rumple was the Lion, and thus had contact with Dorothy, he’d have stolen her slippers, clicked his heels, and popped off to our world without a moment’s delay. I doubt he’d have gone to the trouble of disguising himself, posing as her friend, and then leaving without snagging the shoes. He clearly knew about them somehow, because he sent Jefferson to get them, but I doubt he’d ever had contact with them.
Also, now that I’m thinking of it, if Rumple were posing as the Cowardly Lion, that wouldn’t have been a meek, cowardly act, it would have been an aggressive one, and I’d like them to keep the Lion meek and cowardly. I hope that the Lion, Tinman and Scarecrow are all their own characters, legit residents of Oz, as opposed to a bunch of people we’ve already met in FTL who somehow also met up in Oz at just the right time to hang out with Dorothy. I’d think there’d likely be some connection to FTL, beyond the fact that Jefferson had travelled to Oz, but if they’re gonna make any Oz characters an extension of someone we’ve previously seen, I’d prefer it to be the witches, or the Wizard, instead of Dorothy’s three companions.

Given that he is magic and the Lion is not, being the green witch makes more sense to me.
But being the Lion is a good theory too! Who knows where the writers will take the character?
January 2, 2013 at 6:27 pm #153606PriceofMagicParticipantI disagree on Rumple being the wicked witch of the west for two reasons. 1. Regina had the turning green line which hinted at the wicked witch and 2. Cora said she travelled across many lands so it is possible that Cora herself is the wicked witch.
I think they will link Oz to at least one of the characters we are familiar with otherwise it will seem like the writers have gone off on a tangent and it would mean less screentime for the characters we already know and love.
Although it would seem Rumple could be the lion because of the whole courage theme, I wonder if it will be the Tinman that will link Oz to the characters we know. The Tinman lacked a heart and Cora and Regina are known to rip out hearts.
All magic comes with a price!

In the Frankenstein ep, I wondered if Victor had accompanied Jefferson to Oz, having heard of the Wizard there who can give people missing body parts, including hearts. I could definitely see the Tinman being a victim of the style of heart removal we’ve seen on the show.
