The Return, cont’d
In typical fashion, Gold counters with a question, “Are you proposing I ‘m working with Regina or against her?” Emma suggests, “Diagonally.” Gold ducks that comment and asks what she knows about August, since the latter had been snooping in the pawnshop. Gold claims August’s name is an alias : “If there’s one thing I know about, it’s names.” Emma counters that she trusts August more than she trusts Gold.
In FTL, Rumple and Bae enter their cottage. Rumple sends the housekeeper out, then offers to heal Bae’s wound with magic. Bae blatantly states that Rumple killed the carter; Rumple justifies it with “you were hurt.” Bae rejects the use of magic and chooses a normal means of cleaning the wound. “You’re different now…you hurt people all the time.” Rumple argues that he ended the war and saved the child-soldiers, but Bae will not be deterred, not even when Rumple offers him his heart’s desires. Bae refuses to see the magic as a positive force, nor will he fall to temptation. With pride in his eyes even as he continues to defend the black magic, Rumple says he only wants Bae to be safe and happy–for which he’ll need more power. Bae points out that the reason people are picking on him is his father’s evil powers. Rumple explains that the only way he can be free of the magic is to be killed with the dagger, and even then, the curse would merely be transferred to the killer. What if he could discover another way to break the curse, Bae presses. As the housekeeper enters, seeing the dagger Rumple holds, the conversation halts. When she leaves, Bae succeeds in getting Rumple to agree to a deal: if Bae can find a safe way to break the curse, Rumple will give up the power.[adrotate group="5"]June 10, 2012 at 7:53 pm #148578darcyfarrowParticipantThe Return, cont’d
In SB, Gold picks the lock on August’s room at Granny’s. He enters, looks around, sorts through papers on the desk, finds a drawing of the dagger and scowls.
In FTL, as Rumple visits the housekeeper’s cottage, Bae tries to play with a group of kids, but they run off. Morraine sits with him, explains that the other kids are afraid of Rumple. She says she isn’t afraid: “I don’t think he’s so bad anyway. I saw him on the battlefield when he stopped the fighting. It was like a miracle.” Bae remarks that his father is becoming worse, then briefly mentions the deal. Morraine advises him to seek the ruel ghorm, “the ancient being that rules the night, the original power, ” more powerful than Rumple or anyone. She hurries off ss Rumple approaches. Bae informs Rumple that his friends are afraid of him; Rumple seems confounded by this. But Bae then learns Rumple has killed the housekeeper because she saw the dagger and might have heard the discussion about its ability to kill Rumple. Bae is horrified but Rumple tries to josh about it.
In SB, August visits the Mother Superior–Gold clandestinely watches, then when August leaves, Gold approaches. MS promptly remarks that the rent’s already paid. Gold asks what August came for. MS refuses to violate August’s privacy until Gold threatens to double the rent. She informs him August was seeking advice about reuniting with his long-lost father, the parting with whom had been unpleasant. Gold seems a little taken aback.June 11, 2012 at 11:22 pm #148590darcyfarrowParticipantThe Return, cont’d
In FTL, Bae calls for the ruel ghorm. The Blue Fairy appears and immediately recognizes him as a kid in trouble. “There is good magic and dark magic and I am on the right side.” As soon as Bae says his father is the Dark One, BF says she can’t change him back but she can send him someplace where he can’t use his magic. She assures Bae it’s not a jail. “What ails your father is specific to our world. His powers do not belong here.” Does this mean no Dark Ones exist outside FTL? Does it mean that in another place, the Dark One’s magic would “belong”?
She says the only way Rumple can “escape this wretched curse” is to go to a “land without magic.” Bae is up for the challenge: he will go anywhere to help his father. “You are the part of him that keeps him human, ” she praises. She gives Bae a magic bean, explaining that there are other beans like it but they’ve been lost. “It will save you both,” she promises.
Bae returns home excited; Rumple looks annoyed by the news of the bean. He recognizes the name “ruel ghorm” as the Blue Fairy and points out that fairy magic “doesn’t mix well with what I am.” He doesn’t want to go to the land wthout magic, where he would be “powerless …weak.” Bae reminds him of their deal and he reluctantly accedes.June 11, 2012 at 11:43 pm #148591darcyfarrowParticipantThe Return, cont’d
In SB, Gold raps on Archie’s office door, then changes his mind and starts to leave. Archie catches him and immediately asks if he’s come for the rent [doesn’t anyone pay by mail? ] Gold asks ruefully why people keep assuming that’s what he wants. Archie invites him in to talk. Gold is reluctant but enters. Archie is surprised to learn Gold has a son, even more surprised to learn that Gold thinks his estranged son has come to town to find him. He ducks the question of Bae’s age–a question that would have required a revelation of FTL and the curses. As to why the son is holding back, Gold says, “There was conflict. I’m not sure he’s ready for a tear-soaked reunion.” Archie assumes the son was the one who needed to apologize, but Gold corrects him. Anger is normal, Archie assures–then Gold says, “I think he might be here to try to kill me.” Archie admits that’s not normal. “I let him go. I ‘ve spent my entire life since trying to fix it, ” Gold says. Archie advises Gold to “be honest…ask for forgiveness.” Gold admits, “Honesty’s never been the best color on me.” Archie presses: “There’s no other way.”
Later, in the woods, Gold has followed August to the cabin. Gold confronts him: “I know who you are and I know what you’re looking for.” August seems pleased that he can now be honest with his “papa.”June 12, 2012 at 12:31 am #148592darcyfarrowParticipantThe Return, cont’d
FTL: As he and Bae make their way through the night, Rumple frets. He doesn’t trust the BF, thinks thd bean is a trick and will kill them. Bae starts into the vortex the bean creates but Rumple holds onto him, using the dagger as a stake to pin them to the ground. Bae calls him a coward for violating their deal, then Bae slips into the votex and disappears. The vortex closes. Rumple digs frantically, calling for Bae and insisting he wants to come too, but it’s too late.
In SB, Gold confesses, “You were right, Bae.” As August looks away, Gold admits he was a coward and asks for forgiveness. “In every waking moment I’ve been looking for you.” As they embrace, Gold cries and asks if Bae forgives him. August says he does. Gold says he knows August has come to the woods to find the dagger. August explains that if Gold still has the dagger, he would know Gold hasn’t changed. Gold takes him to the spot at which he buried the dagged after Emma arrived in town; he says he was hiding it from Regina. He then offers the dagger to August, recommending its destruction, “the way you always wanted to. I found you and I don’t need it any more. I chose it once; now I choose you.”
But August turns the dagger on Gold and tries to command him with it. Gold realizes August has scammed him: Bae would’ve known Gold has no magic because that’s why Bae wanted to come to this world to begin with.June 12, 2012 at 12:58 am #148593darcyfarrowParticipantThe Return, cont’d
Why the scam, Gold wants to know . August says, “I had to make you work for it…Do I even look like him at all?” Gold figures out that August came from FTL, then he thows August against a tree, dagger to his throat, and asks who told him about the dagger and about Gold. August claims he a fairy told him. “If you know who I am, then you know who I am,’ Gold says ominously. “The chances of you suvivinfmg this little encounter are pretty slim.” August claims he’s dying and needs magic to live. Gold softens a liitle. August continues that he approached Emma first but since she doesn’t believe in the curse, she can’t help. Gold argues that Emma trusts August, so he should try again to convince her. Gold releases August: “You’re going to die either way. At least this say I might get something out of it.”
In FTL, Rumple summons the Blue Fairy. She doesn’t seem surprised that he’s still in FTL; in fact, shereacts rather self-righteously. Before he can ask, she declares there are no more magic beans. “That’s a lie, ” Rumple roars. He begins guessing other means of transport to the land without magic. The fairy hesitates when he guesses “a curse, ” then smugly answers, “Of course you would think of a curse instead of a blessing. Your magic is limited by its own rotten core. “June 12, 2012 at 1:08 am #148595darcyfarrowParticipantThe Return, cont’d
The BF says the curse “can’t be done, not without a great price.” Rumple claims he’s already paid.
She says he hasn’t the ability to create the curse ; he argues he will try no matter how long it takes. “I will do nothing else, I will love nothing else.” He accuses her of taking Bae; she refutes it; he persists and screams into empty air as she vanishes.June 12, 2012 at 1:10 am #148596darcyfarrowParticipantI’ve been holding off on “Skin Deep” in case anyone else would like to adopt it. June 12, 2012 at 1:55 am #148599JosephineParticipantI’d take it, but I’m missing a five minute chunk from my recording and it’s a good part where he’s smashing all the stuff in his cupboard. I did get it back up recording in time to see him smashing Moe’s body, which I find Gold markedly attractive in that scene. Not that I condone any type of violence. 😆
So it’s all yours. 😈

In SB, August phones Gold for a meeting.
Later, August arrives at the pawn shop to find Gold busy with someone he’s hiring to fix a cuckoo clock. With a sly smile Gold draws August’s attention to the clock–and to the repairman, Marco, whom August recognizes (the recognition is not returned). August is stunned. Marco leaves and Gold chides August for not speaking up: “What are you afraid of?” August refuses to answer and Gold continues to smirk. Gold then wants to know why August is taking so long in getting Emma to believe. August protests; Emma is distracted by the custody fight for Henry. Gold remarks, “Sounds like Ms. Swan needs a course correction” (a phrase that was used often in Lost).
August asks that when Emma tries to hire Gold as her legal counsel, Gold should refuse, so Emma will then turn to August as her only supporter. “Knowing who you are and your nature, trust is a big ask,” Gold laughs harshly, but he agrees to redirect Emma.
Emma comes to the shop to ask Gold to be her attorney; he claims she would lose the case and Henry would suffer in the process. Emma pushes: “The only person I’ve ever seen go head to head with Regina and win is you.” Gold replies, “That’s because I know how to pick my battles.” He smiles as she storms out, knowing she’s on her way to see August. -
