The Stranger
The Blue Fairy tells Geppetto the same information about the curse that Rumple said, back when he talked to Charming and Snow from his prison cell.
In SB, the information August provides Emma reiterates everything the BF and Rumple have said about the curse. These separate testimonies, from independent sources, confirm that Rumple can indeed see the future, at least in part, and that he tells the truth in his deals, at least most of the time.[adrotate group="5"]June 26, 2012 at 4:49 pm #149152PriceofMagicParticipantI’ll take on Skin Deep if you don’t want it darcyfarrow.

Start off in fairytale land. Belle’s father has sent a request to Rumple for his help in the ogre wars but Rumple has not arrived. The castle they are in is trashed and damaged, they’ve barricaded the door and the ogres appear to be winning. Times are desperate. Maurice describes the ogres as “unstoppable” and it seems that Rumple was their last hope against the ogres. Belle tries to reassure her father that all is not lost by saying that Rumple “could be on his way right now” but Maurice tells her that “It is too late, my girl, it’s just too late”. There is a loud dramatic knock on the door. Maurice orders his knights to open the door, however when they do there is nobody there. Everyone stares at the empty hallway until Rumple says “well that was a bit of a letdown”. Everyone turns round to see Rumple sitting in Maurice’s throne. Rumple negotiates a deal with Maurice telling him that he can protect their “little town for a price”. Rumple dismisses Maurice’s “promise of gold” and wants Belle instead. Maurice refuses and sends Rumple away, however Belle stops him (perhaps realising that without Rumple’s help they’d probably be killed by the ogres) and agrees to go with him in exchange for her family and friends’ safety. With the deal struck, Rumple allows Belle to say goodbye to her father and Gaston before taking Belle away to “his rather large estate”.
Storybrooke, and Mr Gold is taking Maurice’s aka Moe French’s flower van after Moe fails to pay up on a loan. As Mr Gold walks away, he is accosted by Regina who wants to talk to him about “something”. Gold brushes her off and when she tries to stop him he uses the please clause and walks off. When Gold returns home, he finds his front door ajar. He pulls a gun from a hiding place and begins searching through his house. Sensing someone behind him, Gold turns around pointing his gun to find Emma pointing her gun at him. Gold informs her that he’s been robbed. When Emma says that it’s funny how that keeps happening to him, Gold states that he is “a difficult man to love.
Fairytale land, and Rumple is leading Belle to her “room”. Belle is shocked that he has led her to a dungeon instead but Rumple laughs in her face telling her that room “sounded a lot nicer than dungeon”, he then pushes Belle in and locks the door before walking off. We next see Belle serving Rumple some tea as he runs through her new duties. He makes a quip about Belle having to skin children which makes Belle drop the cup she is holding. Belle apologises for breaking the cup and Rumple doesn’t see why she is making a big deal out of it, saying “It’s just a cup”.
Storybrooke, Gold tries to get rid of Emma, telling her that he “knows exactly what was taken and who did it” and that he’s “got it from here”. Emma refuses to leave and threatens to arrest Gold for obstruction of justice if he doesn’t tell her what he knows. Gold’s reaction, which Emma picks up on, implies he “doesn’t want to be behind bars” which Gold confirms. (This could be because he spent his last few months in fairytale land locked up and he doesn’t want to repeat the experience.) Gold tells Emma what he knows and points her in Moe’s direction. Gold begins to imply about taking revenge before realising what he is saying in front of Emma. When Emma asks “is that a threat?” Gold says “observation”. Emma then leaves.
Fairytale land, and Belle is trying to open the curtains. Rumple is sitting at his spinning wheel when Belle asks him why he spins so much. Rumple initially ignores her but eventually answers “I like to watch the wheel, helps me forget”. When Belle asks “forget what?” Rumple jokingly replies “I guess it worked”. Belle laughs at his joke before continuing trying to open the curtains. Rumple gets up from his spinning wheel to see what Belle is doing. As Belle pulls on the curtains, she falls off the ladder and Rumple catches her in his arms. Belle and Rumple share a moment before Rumple quickly puts Belle down and they act rather awkwardly. Both Belle and Rumple seem to reflect on what just occurred as they carry on with their separate activities. (I think the opening of the curtains is meant to represent Belle bringing light to Rumple’s life. In ALWM, Rumple describes Belle as “a brief flicker of light amidst an ocean of darkness”.)
Back in Storybrooke, Emma has recovered Mr Gold’s stolen items but hasn’t yet caught Moe French. Gold looks over the items and begins to get annoyed because “there’s something missing”. Emma’s attitude just seems a bit off, she doesn’t even inquire as to what is missing but tells Gold that she’ll “get it when I find it”. Gold walks away, determined to get whatever is missing back himself “not if I find it first”.
Back to fairytale land. The curtains at Rumple’s castle are now open. Rumple grabs his chipped cup of tea whilst looking out the window. Belle walks over to him and begins to walk behind him. This somewhat surprises Rumple who quickens his pace and jumps back a little to put some space between him and Belle before Belle sits down on the table. Belle asks Rumple why he wanted her there, to which Rumple replies “place was filthy”. Belle guesses that Rumple was lonely and that “any man would be lonely”. Rumple responds with “I’m not a man” and sits down beside her. There is a moment of silence between the two before Belle tries to change the subject. She mentions finding child size clothing in one of the rooms upstairs and asks Rumple if it was his or a son’s. Rumple has a pained look upon his face before admitting that there was a son and he lost him “as I did his mother”. (This may mean it was Rumple’s cowardice that cost him his family. First his wife left him when he ran away from the ogre war, then he lost Bae when he refused to go through the vortex with him). Belle expresses her sympathies before trying to continue the conversation, however, Rumple just sits in silence staring at his cup of tea. Belle asks him “If I’m never going to know another person in my whole life, can’t I at least know you?” . Rumple responds with “perhaps. Perhaps you just want to know the monster’s weaknesses”. Belle tells Rumple “you’re not a monster” before the conversation is interrupted by a dramatic knock on the castle’s door. (If all the characters knew where to find Rumple and he was as dangerous as Charming said, why did they wait until he was after Cinderella’s baby before trying to capture him?)
Rumple answers the door to find Gaston there with is sword pointed at Rumple. Rumple doesn’t even let Gaston finish his sentence before turning him into a rose. Rumple gives the rose to Belle and they share another moment before Belle goes to find a vase to put the rose in. As belle is doing that and clipping the stem of the rose, Rumple asks her why she chose to go with him. Rumple sits in his chair and listens intently as Belle gives him her reasons. Rumple specifically asks Belle about Gaston knowing that he has just turned him into the rose that is now sitting in a vase on the table. Belle tells Rumple that she never loved Gaston “it was an arranged marriage” and Rumple is hanging on to her every word and even shakes his head in agreement as Belle says she could never love someone “as superficial” as Gaston. When Belle changes the subject back to Rumple’s son, Rumple changes the subject by offering Belle a deal that if she goes to town, picks up some straw and returns, he will tell her about his son. Belle is surprised that Rumple would trust her to come back but Rumple reveals that he expects never to see her again.
All magic comes with a price!

Back in Storybrooke, Charming is in the general store buying two valentine cards. He joins the queue behind Mr Gold who is buying rope and duct tape. (Why has David left it until Valentine’s day to buy his cards anyway? Fair enough on Mary Margaret’s if he didn’t want to risk Kathryn finding it, but she should have got Kathryn’s card before then). Gold remarks about the two cards “two valentines, sounds like a complicated life” but David tries to lie saying they’re both for Kathryn and that he couldn’t decide”. Gold says “these are both for the same woman?” in a do you really expect me to believe that kind of way. David continues with his lie. Gold tells David that he is fortunate to have someone that loves him and describes love as “a delicate flame. Once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.” Gold wishes David luck and leaves with his purchases.
Gold is then shown driving the flower van with Moe French tied up in the back. He drives Moe to a cabin in the words and orders him out of the van and in the cabin at gunpoint.
Back to fairytale land, and Belle is walking through the woods when she meets Regina. Belle tries to get rid of Regina but Regina ignores her. Regina tells Belle about true love’s kiss being able to break any curse. (How did Regina know who Belle was and that she could use her against Rumple?)
Belle returns to Rumple’s castle where Rumple is standing by the window of his tower awaiting Belle’s return. (How long had Rumple been stood there and how long would he have stood there had Belle not returned?) Rumple runs down the stairs to his spinning wheel and plays it casual like he hadn’t been stood waiting for Belle to come back. Belle is a lot more forward with Rumple in this scene “Come on, you’re happy that I’m back”. When Rumple admits he’s “not unhappy” Belle becomes touchy feely with him, touching his shoulders, taking the wool right out of his hands, putting her hand on his leg. When Belle asks that Rumple tell her about his son, he side steps the question, saying that he lost him and that “there’s nothing more to tell really”. Rumple asks Belle why she came back and Belle admits she wasn’t going to but “something changed my mind”. Rumple and Belle then kiss and Rumple starts to become normal.
Belle tells Rumple “any curse can be broken” and he starts to freak out demanding to know “Who told you that? Who knows that?” Belle is startled by Rumple’s change in mood and mentions a “she” which Rumple accurately deduces is Regina. He whips the cover off of the mirror and starts yelling at it. Belle, looking very concerned, asks who Rumple is talking to and Rumple replies “the queen! Your friend, the queen!” and couldn’t be more sarcastic if he tried. I think Rumple’s reaction was based off of his own insecurities. Earlier he referred to himself as a “monster” and “not a man” and he says to Belle “I knew this was a trick, I knew you could never care for me”. Rumple questions whether Belle is working for Regina or if this was all her trying to be “the hero and killing the beast”. When Belle tries to point out that the kiss was working which meant that it was true love Rumple yells at her to “Shut up! Shut the hell up!” and that “no one could ever, ever love me!” Rumple then throws Belle back into the dungeon. (I think Belle was upgraded to a room during her stay with Rumple hence why being thrown back into the dungeon seemed to upset her. It seemed like all the progress she had made with Rumple came undone over a kiss.)
Back in Storybrooke, and Moe is begging Gold to let him explain. Gold sits on a chair and uses his cane to push down on Moe’s windpipe, restricting his breathing, and tells him “I’m going to let you breathe in a second and you’re going to say two sentences. The first is going to tell me where it is, the second is going to tell me who told you to take it. Do you understand the rules? Good, let’s begin”. When Moe tells Gold that he needed the van, Gold replies that “that is not a good first sentence!” and whacks Moe with his cane. Gold repeatedly demands that Moe tell him where “it” is and hits Moe with his cane every time when Moe doesn’t comply. When Moe manages to say “it wasn’t my fault” between whacks, Gold takes it personally and says “My fault, what are you talking about my fault? You shut her out, you had her love and you shut her out!” He then whacks Moe extra hard. “She’s gone. She’s gone forever, she’s not coming back. It’s your fault, not mine, you are her father!” Gold then whacks Moe again and again and basically beats the crap out of him.
The scene of Gold beating Moe changes to Rumple trashing the glass door cabinet in his castle.
Back to Gold beating Moe yelling “It’s your fault!” repeatedly. Emma grabs his arm and tells him to stop.Back to Rumple destroying the tea set by throwing it against the wall. He picks up the chipped cup and looks at it before calming down enough to put the teacup down unharmed.
At the cabin in the woods, Moe is being taken to hospital in an ambulance. Emma wants to know what Moe actually did as Gold’s reaction was about “more than taking a few trinkets”. Emma mentions Gold talking about a “her” (How long was Emma at the cabin before she stopped Gold beating Moe? Gold was yelling “It’s your fault” when Emma burst in). Gold refuses to talk, telling Emma “we’re done here”. As he tries to walk away Emma arrests him.
Back to fairytale land, Belle is sitting in her dungeon with the tea set and the chipped cup beside her. Rumple walks in and tells Belle to go before turning his back to her. When Belle questions what he has just said, Rumple keeps his back to her and says “I don’t want you anymore dearie”. Belle gets up and begins to leave before coming back and giving Rumple a piece of her mind. Belle calls Rumple a coward (the last thing Bae called him before he disappeared in to the vortex), Rumple counters that he isn’t a coward and that “my power means more to me than you”. Belle calls him on his lie and tells him that he is going to regret his decision and that all he will be left with is “an empty heart and a chipped cup” Belle then leaves.
Back in Storybrooke, Gold is sitting in a cell in the sheriff’s department. Emma brings up the favour she owes Gold and offers him some of her sandwich as it would be a “delicious way to curl the books”. Gold warns her that he hasn’t forgotten she owes him a favour and that when he calls it in “it’ll be for more than half a sandwich”. Regina then walks in with Henry and bribes Emma to give her thirty minutes alone with Gold. Gold suspected that Regina put Moe French up to robbing him and Regina confirms his suspicions. Gold makes a deal with Regina, in exchange for what he wants, he’ll give her what she wants. Regina wants to know Mr Gold’s name. Gold tries to dupe her “every moment I’ve spent on this earth that’s been my name”, however Regina isn’t falling for it and Gold is forced to reveal that he remembers his fairytale life as Rumplestiltskin. Regina gives him back the chipped cup, Rumple’s only memento of Belle. With the cup safely back in his possession, Rumple warns Regina that he’s still the one with the power and that he’ll be out of the cell “in no time and nothing between us will change”. Regina replies with “We shall see” before leaving Gold alone with his chipped cup.
Fairytale land, Rumple is spinning at his wheel when Regina strolls in wanting to discuss a deal about a “certain mermaid”. Rumple tells Regina “I’m not dealing today” and carries on with his spinning. Regina makes herself a cup of tea and asks if Rumple is angry with her “what is it this time?”. Rumple informs her that her “little deception failed” and that you’re never going to beat me”. Regina patronises Rumple by asking him “is this about that girl I met on the road?”. Regina pretends to have forgotten Belle’s name until Rumple corrects her. Regina then tells Rumple lies about how Belle committed suicide after being tortured and shunned because of her “association” with Rumple. Rumple is clearly trying to hold himself together in front of Regina and he struggles to tell Regina “we’re done”. He walks over to the door, escorting Regina out. Before she leaves, Regina cruelly tells Rumple that “the place is looking dusty” and that he “should get a new girl”. With Regina gone, Rumple replaces a golden goblet with the chipped cup and cries over his lost love.
Back in Storybrooke, Regina visits the hospital where it is revealed that Belle is alive after all. (Whether Regina intended to use Belle against Rumple remains to be seen, she doesn’t yet know that Jefferson freed Belle from the hospital.)
