So now we know that Mr. Gold is not trying to help Regina keep the curse intact, but he is not really actively trying to stop her either. I’m just wondering what could possibly be Mr. Gold’s motives for wanting the curse to be broken. Does he know something that Regina does not, like what would happen if the curse was broken? We also know that Rumple created the curse to find his lost son, so he is trying to break the curse in order to keep searching since he is stuck in Storybrook? What do you guys think?

Perhaps he wants to weaken the curse so he can leave Storybrooke and find his son. Also maybe he designed the curse so that when it’s broken it transports everyone from FTL living in the real world back – not just those who were in FTL when the curse hits, but anyone from FTL That way Bae would be transported back to FTL too.
May 7, 2012 at 6:35 pm #145835imported_belleParticipantOh wow. That’s a good theory. That would definitely help him find his son! The only hole in that theory is what if Bae is not in the “real world.” We have learned that there are many worlds, so he could really be anywhere?
May 7, 2012 at 7:04 pm #145841pandoras impParticipantYes he may not be in our world but I think Mr. Gold believes he is in our world.
He’s spent possibly hundreds of years creating the curse to get back to his son, so although something could have happened that would have sent Bae to a different land, I think Mr. Gold truly believes he is in the same place and same time as his son.
Not to say that makes my theory right. I’ve been way off before. The show keeps surprising me and I like it that way. 😀

For instance during Mr. Gold’s and August’s encounter when August had the dagger.
May 7, 2012 at 9:11 pm #145858butterscotchParticipantI think he wants it broken because he cant leave Storybrooke to look for his son who is clearly not there. I think thats why he kept talking in the last episode about going on a trip. What I do wonder is why did he make it so that Emma dying would break the curse and yet he hasnt tried to kill her. He obviously had the opportunity. He could have just killed here and be over with it. So either he lied to Regina or he has something else up his sleeve ❓
May 7, 2012 at 9:29 pm #145859SlurpeezParticipantI think that Mr. Gold lied to Regina about the curse breaking when Emma dies. I think he very intentionally wants to keep Emma alive so she can break the curse. The best way to ensure Regina doesn’t kill Emma is for him to say that killing her would cause the curse to break. Regina certainly wants to keep the curse intact so she can keep her power.

That’s what I’ve been thinking and can’t for the life of me come up with a solid reason why he wouldn’t take the opportunity. He seems to be perfectly happy letting Regina and Emma duke it out. Maybe he has faith that Emma will beat Regina.
There are a couple things I have considered. The first is that Emma is the “savior” therefore she can be seen as the champion or hero of this story and perhaps if the curse can be broken and people can leave SB, then Gold can look to Emma for assistance in finding Bae.
Secondly, there’s the matter of the favor Emma owes Gold and that could go a few ways. If Gold doesn’t call on the favor regarding Belle, then he would call it in following the aftermath of the curse being broken. Gold could ask Emma to help him find Bae.
Or, even more dramatic, he can cash in the favor and have Emma be his protector. I say that because if people in SB would regain their memories regarding Regina, then what’s to keep them from remembering who Gold really is. Perhaps, that’s why Gold was already making “travel plans.” Aside from him wanting to look for Bae, there’d also be a price on his head. That would be a dramatic element in the show – the savior of the FTL characters, now protecting their greatest enemy.

I agree that it doesn’t make sense if he wants the Curse broken.
That’s why I don’t think he wants to break it completely, only weaken it enough so he can leave.May 7, 2012 at 11:36 pm #145872king arthurParticipantStill a bit confused about Mr. Gold going and leaving from SB, as well as searching for Bae. Here are the issues I’m still confused about:
1. So I guess Mr. Gold can’t leave SB until the curse is broken. So he did not leave SB in order to “procure” Henry?
2. Did Mr. Gold expect Bae to be in SB? Is that how he planned the curse to work?
3. Or has he been expecting Bae to eventually find him? Since he was at first willing to believe August was Bae.
4. Was he planning to leave SB all along in order to search for Bae? Or did he decide that was what he needed to do after what happened with August?
5. If leaving SB to find Bae was not in his original plan then is there some other reason he wanted the curse to be broken eventually?
6. Why did it have to be Emma coming back at age 28 to break the curse? Why not 25? Why not 29?Seems like with every answer we get more mysteries and questions.
