I interpret that as Bobby saying that a happy ending shouldn’t just be handed to Rumple, he should earn it. He shouldn’t have a happy ending whilst he’s doing bad things. If he becomes a good person, then he should get one.
Oh, I totally agree Rumple’s happy ending shouldn’t just be handed to him. I think Robert even said one time that it shouldn’t be that way and happy endings should be earned.
But the thing about Rumple, he had a happy ending with Belle and he still screwed it up all, all on his own.
[adrotate group="5"]March 24, 2015 at 9:17 pm #299779RumplesGirlKeymasterGaultheria had the same idea and @MatthewPaul added a hint from this past episode–415–that Emma will stab Rumple through the heart with the dagger, ending his life and becoming the next Dark One.
I think it’s going to be worth keeping track of all the Rumple is going to die hints

Also, Ursula revealed to Hook that Rumple’s plan is to make Emma’s heart dark, forever. How on Earth could he assure Emma’s heart would become darkened forever unless she becomes the next dark one?
(4×15)
Another good point

I’ve always read Rumple as a person that doesn’t wait for someone to hand him what he wants. He goes to great lengths to earn the things that he most desires. Which is why I think he would never rely on the Author to give him a happy ending.
I think at this point we don’t know what his new motivation is, but I don’t think its death OR Belle. Rumple has seemed extremely motivated this season. What with all the brisk walking, blackmail, and betrayal. That doesn’t read ‘I’m ready to die’ to me.
And from a storytelling standpoint ANOTHER Rumple self-sacrifice seems lazy.

But it’s not self sacrifice. He’s not saving anyone. He’s doing it for himself. He’s dying for the same reason Zoso died–because he was tired of being the Dark One and wanted it to be over. It’s incredibly selfish. It’s the complete and utter opposite of 311.

Which when strangely put into that comparison…seems to be a full circle for Rumple. 3×11 self sacrifice = 4×22 selfish sacrifice

Rumple agreed. Now it’s very possible and even probable that Rumple was lying to Cruella and it does feel like a retcon from what we know about the Dark One’s curse, but let’s face it–this show ain’t exactly consistent.
I think you could definitely be right about the writers having Rumple die by season’s end, although I hope he doesn’t – we all know the show would suffer without him. But I’m confused by you saying his being able to be killed outside of Storybrooke in our world as unusual. I agree this show breaks its own rules, but haven’t they been consistent on this?

Not that it’s unusual. More like, him *admitting* it out loud, to the woman with a gun who is clearly not running on all cylinders and has every intention of using it. I was misspoken about it being a retcon. That is in line.

I mean, she does have that new black costume, which I think looks kind of like leather? (I only looked at the pic once). I mean, if Lily really is Anti-Savior then it make sense maybe. Emma’s light and now Lily is literally Dark. A&E answered that Lily was the Black Swan to Emma’s Swan Princess or whatever. Just a suggestion.

No they didn’t
A and E said that if Emma went dark that would make her the Black Swan, a bit of a tongue in cheek joke about the Natalie Portman movie and famous ballet. They’ve never mentioned Lily in that regard because they are trying to keep a lid on Lily. We know she’s coming back, but that’s all A and E have given away
